Yet another winner of a second season episode. Laurie Prange plays the lead role of Brenda, the annoying girl who alienates her family and friends as they spend a summer on a remote island paradise. Prange's portrayal of Brenda is curious, annoying and nearly evil, but it is oh-so dead on.

This story was nothing like I expected it would be. Brenda is a mean little girl with some severe behavioral problems or a real issue with growing up. The weird twist is that one day while running through the woods, Brenda discovers an ancient beast made of seaweed, mud and stone. It chases her around the island until she manages to trap it and then later lets it free to apparently scare her parents or maybe just relieve her boredom.

Some shots of the beast are really pretty creepy even though it's not an overly convincing costume. This is really an odd duck of a tale, but I was quite entertained by it. "Brenda" was written by former TZ director Douglas Heyes.

A very strange little show written by Rod Serling. It reminds me a bit of the Twilight Zone episode "Stopover In a Quiet Town". Another Night Gallery installment that uses minimal sets and it pays off in the sort of disconnected feeling we get from the characters. The ending falls a little flat but it's worth the time to watch.
