How fantastic can something be? This was incredible on so many levels.
First of all just everything in terms of style and visualisation. From wideshots showing the breathtaking scenery to the tiniest details on the characters felt, this series simply looks great.
Secondly the natural and casual integration of so many elements from Japanese folklore and myths which was done with so much love and respect. By a studio from the US on top of that (okay the studio is led by two Japanese or Halfjapanese).
And overall this was just too cute. But not simply cute but actually with a lot of depth and a captivating - albeit not very innovative - story.

The drop of bitterness however is the decision to commit to the stop motion experience through an irritatingly low framerate. I understand the idea but a few frames more would have been much easier on the eye.
