So, let me just start off by saying that I have tried numerous times to watch this series. Each and every time I would restart it, I found myself disappointed with the quality of the first few episodes. Actually, you could almost say that the experience of watching the first season is... Well... A grinding, difficult few hours of TV to get through. Yet it somehow finds a way to persuade you into the next season.
With respect to this, I am proud to say that my last attempt to watch this series was grand. I felt glorious with myself after making it through the first few episodes, and oh man did it pay off!
Where do I begin? Greg Daniels and Michael Schur did as great of a job as I have ever seen with developing the characters throughout this series. After each reoccurring actor sets their role in stone and cements their character's personality, you can see why this show, on average, rates higher the further you watch it. The show is centered around ten different individuals, all with completely different personalities (yes, including Chris Pratt's character, a thirty-something year old kid). This brings to light a lot of issues and drama that the cast must work through in each and every episode.
The writers went for a punch punch punch type of humor. A little laugh every couple of minutes, and I think that's what makes this such an entertaining show. Just after I felt myself recovering from an extremely funny line thrown at Terry/Jerry/Garry/Larry (they're all the same character, if you can believe it), Andy (played by Chris Pratt) says something out of this world dumb and just makes me lose it again.
All in all, I am most certainly going to find myself re-watching this in the future as I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Solid sitcom. A totally innocuous family sitcom I may add. It's not great but enjoyable. It lost all his political, more serious ambitions after the first few episodes and used the setting "local government" as a mere inconsequential backdrop. First and last seasons are the weakest. Very likeable characters. Minor characters are totally overpowered by Leslie, who's a force. Only Ron's character and his libertarian quips are maybe on par (although April has clearly some potential and grows over the course of the show). I actually like Ron's character the most. Highlights: penguins in a car and Werner Herzog :-)
Great show... some annoying characters but worth watching.
Though the first season was a little sub-par, Parks and Recreation only gets better from there. It has some of the best characters I've seen whose actors made amazing performances (Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt). The comedy is hilarious and honestly, I would suggest it to any Comedy fan. Just get through the first season, it's pretty great afterwards.
Parks and Recreation is one of my favorite tv series and the most amazing hilarious smart brilliant comedy ever made. I admit the first episodes are very different from the rest of the seasons so you could be a bit disappointed knowing the numberless positive reviews ... you just have to give the characters enough time to grow into their well-defined personalities and you'll end up loving each one of them. In my opinion, Ron Swanson and Leslie Knope are the best people ever written not just because they are awesome but also because you don't find that kind of characters very often ( closely followed by Andy Dwyer ). Although a bit underrated I'm also totally in love with dorky nerd sweet Ben. In the end, this show is absolutely a must-see !!
The first few seasons were really good. I found the ending disappointing and even realised no matter how much I enjoyed the characters, I will not miss them like I miss a Michael Scott or a Jesse Pinkman...
The best comedy TV show I've ever seen.
First episodes are meh, but it gets better and funnier each episode after that
Tried to watch the first episode of this but had to stop it after 10 minutes. People being stupid does not make a funny TV show. I really don't understand how it got such a good score.
Finally finished this after falling off during a big move several years back.
Top-notch writing that never forgets to put heart and character at the forefront, servicing its fantastic cast (one of the greatest sitcom groups ever assembled) and effectively cementing this show as one of the greatest comedy series ever made.
After a slow start the show really picks up around season 3 and never looks back.
One of the best TV series I have ever watched. So hard not to like the characters. Great ending to the show too!
honestly, sometimes they're a little VERY hard on jerry.. :(
The first season was living in the U.S. version of The Office shadow but from season two onwards the show came into its own. Pawnee is the real life version of Springfield along with the number of weird and hilarious characters. Fantastic show and very warm and uplifting in certain parts.
I struggled to find anything likeable about Leslie Knope but characters like Tom, Garry & Ron Swanson kept me entertained but April was easily the funniest of the lot.
This is the greatest TV show ever!
I love you Amy Poehler and I love all your work ever.
Unpopular opinion: The show is overrated, or perhaps I don't like it because I don't like the humour in it. I don't know (:
@BeastleeUK The first episode which is the pilot and the first season is pretty rough to watch. From season 2 onward it gets really good, but season 3 it just really takes off. The characters really take a 360 degree turn after season 1 and the show just gets better to the point where it's one of the best sitcoms on TV.
Really going to miss this show. Despite a rocky start, it turned out to be great. I aspire to be a Swanson!
It's been months since this ended and I'm still not over it. Just finished rewatching and the finale made me as emotional as the first time I watched it. Absolutely fantastic show
Just watched the whole show for the first time, fucking loved it. First season was rough, last season was different but the finale was amazing. Teared me up. Great, great show!
I'm currently watching 4x08 and I'm loving it.
This is like The Office, only dumber and a bit less funny.
Started a bit bad like most would agree but from that point on it just got better and better. The characters are so memorable and Pawnee is such a well developed world that the city becomes a character in and of itself. This is genuinely one of the most funny and uplifting comedy shows out there. It took what the Office started and perfected it.
Officially my favorite TV show of all time... I'm in love.
Loved the series. too bad they decided to end this quick.
My favorite show on TV right now. It's like The Office but happier.
Great show, reminds a lot of the office , awkward comedy
@BenFranklin: hahahaha thank you so much to do me a google search.
have u known that there is a cake? http://www.foodiggity.com/behold-the-ron-swanson-cake/
(the cake is a lie^^) ;-)
Forever my favorite sitcom, there isn’t a single episode I’m sick of and I’ve watched it at least 30 times since the age of 10. I might have a sentimental biases but even with other sitcoms I absolutely love I later on find myself not being able to watch certain areas/episodes again, but never with Parks and Recreation. I know how people feel about season 1 (which is definitely the weakest) but I also still love it and it has multiple standout moments that I remember often when I think about this show. To me it is perfect, It will never fail to bring me immense joy and comfort.
One of the best comedies I've seen Aziz Ansari and Aubrey Plaza were my favorite characters But Nick Offerman stole the show with his Iconic character Ron Swanson. This show was good at evoking emotion because I felt bad for the characters at certain times and I laughed a lot. W of a show.
My one issue with this show is the main character. Leslie Knope has to be one of the most annoying TV protagonists I've ever seen. The rest of the cast is great, however, and kept me invested throughout in spite of her.
Even though plenty of people have gotten around to watching this show by now, I’ve still gotta call it underrated.
god i love this show. there's an amazing plot (at least for a comedy show) and i laugh without fail every episode i watch
Inlove you April Ludgate So much
This show was another high quality NBC sitcom. If you like The Office, if you like 30 Rock, this is right there with those shows. The cast is amazing. The writing is clever. This show is a must see if you like the previously mentioned shows, but at least give it a try if you aren't because the witty humor might just draw you in!
Average Season Review: 8.29/10
Recommendation: At Least Give it a Whirl (For NBC Sitcom Fans)
its such a comfort show! As the show progresses you can't help but love the characters! Hail ZORP!!
Super repetitive and takes itself too seriously sometimes.
2,3,4 seasons are kinda good but overall, it’s overrated
After having rewatched Community and finishing it once again, I needed some likeable characters to fill the void left in my heart that only fictitious characters could fill. Parks and Rec did just that, and did it well. I had initially put it on hold roughly six episodes in because it just wasn't clicking with me, however as many people had suggested it gets better, I pushed through, and boy am I glad I did. Roughly somewhere in the second season, the writers really got ahold of the characters and way they acted, from there on out I loved having the ability to forget life for 20ish minutes at a time, and connect with these dysfunctional people. Though Parks and Rec isn't a show I am wanting to rewatch soon, it is a show I can see myself revisiting in the future. Though it is not quite as good as The Office or Community imo, it didn't have the curse of overstaying it's welcome and leaving a sour taste in my mouth. (Though the last season was quite a weird choice with what they did, still a nice wrap up though).
I'm on Season 4 and I'm hooked. It's not even that funny, I had laughed like crazy the first 2 seasons and then the show just became a norm. It's just interesting to watch.
I loved this show. It does a lot right. Some episodes are disappointing, some are superb. Simply a must-see for comedy or mockumentary fans.
Brilliant show but season 7 was very bad.
Like most people say, the show starts off a bit shakey. But after the first few episode I really loved the show. I feel a bit sad it has ended.
AMAZING SERIES WILL MISS IT SO MUCH!!
First few seasons were great. Last one with the jump into the future was quite disappointing…
Still a really great show!
Only thorough and hard work of creative team and tallented actors can lead a TV series to success. Parks and Rec represents a wonderful example of an outstanding and notable TV show appealing to vast audiences.
The story itself revolves around Parks and Recreation department in the town of Pawnee, which is aimed at creating new areas of recreation and maintaining the existing ones. Although the employees are desperately trying to improve the living standards in Pawnee, local citizens keep on complaining, thus, preventing really positive and important changes in the town. This disharmony created by the screenwriters appears to be intriguing and catches the viewers' attention from the first shot.
Besides, Parks and Rec is stuffed with hilarious jokes and amusing situations. I can't but appreciate this wonderful feature, as it brings home the idea that every complicated issue gets much easier in case you are capable of laughing at it and realising that there are no unsolvable problems. Witty characters like old good friends always inspire you.
It cannot be denied, that charaters introduced in the show are round and quite complex, as they develop throughout the narration. At first, Leslie Knope, the main character, seems to be unbelievably irritating, annoying and constantly trying to overcomplicate simple issues. However through the course of time we reveal her gentle but at the same time strong nature. The trully determined woman who never forgets about her principles , virtues and values becomes the one you admire... sincerely.
People surrounding her are unique - each of them also has their genuine and sophisticated personality. For instance, Ron Swanson, the head of the department, represents the direct opposite of enthusiastic Leslie Knope. This character combines come old-fashioned views, masculine behaviour, devotion to his ideals and special sense of humour. The amazing blend is nothing but the reason for viewers' great love for him.
I can endlessly talk about Andy Dwyer a.k.a. Burt Tyrannosaurus Macklin, April Ludgate, Ann Perkins, Garry "Jerry"/"Larry"/"Lenny"/"Terry"/"Barry" Gergich "Gengurch"/"Girgich", Tom Haverford .... It's evident, that almost every character deservers to be understood and paid attention to!
On realization that the TV series has come to the end and it's high time you said goodbye to the characters sadness breaks your heart into pieces. However Pawnee and its citizens (including Li'l Sebastian) stay with you forever. Deep in your soul.
one of the best overall comedy series, imo.
One of the best comedies on TV!
I MISS YOU COME BACK TO ME
The first episode is shit, the first season is weak. After that it gets really epic. Highly recommended.
Ron Swanson is tied for the best comedic character with Barney Stinson.
Chris Pratt brought me to this series but everyone in the cast made me stick with it.
This show gave me the laugh of my life.. and i seen a lot of shows! :

Every character is so unique and quirky, and so likable! Even the side characters like Perd, that creepy dentist, and my favorite Jon Raffio. I think Ann was too "normal" and didnt fit in. Chris is literally awesome and will be missed :(

I love this show so much. After Community finished I was looking for a similar show and I found one that was even better!
Ron Swanson and April Ludgate are the best characters.
Another season over :(
Great show well written.

I am sooooo in love with that show!
Usually on a comedy show like Parks and Recreation, the writers need some episodes to introduce the characters. That can be really boring sometimes. But the writers of Parks and Recreation made it possible to fall in love with every character since the 2nd episode. How do they made that in just ~20 minutes for each episode?
This show is fantastic ! Far much better than The Office or 30 Rock . Every character is sooo different and no one is annoying (well Andy maybe).
I watched 5 seasons in a row because I didn't heard anything about this show and I NEVER get bored during watching an episode.
This show gets 9 out of 10 <3 from me.
And I fell in love with Ron Swanson.
RON SWANSON FOR THE WIN!
Renewed for 5th season with 22 episodes!!!
I finally know who Ron Swanson reminds me of: "Killer Bean" :D

You'll find it on YT
I never heard anything about this show - until I read @pirs comment (4x12).
It's HILARIOUS!!!
This is just too good.
Ron and April are the reason I watch this show. Tom used to be one, but he's boring nowadays.

@BeastleeUK
The first few episodes start off a bit shakey and a lot of the characters initially start off a bit dense and/or one dimensional. I would urge you to give it another go and get through a couple of episodes. After that, this show proves it is entirely worthy of the score and praise it gets.
