Pieces of Her 2022

Transparent communication between parents and their children would avoid this mess

Toni Colette is a fine actress. But that’s about it. Story is generic. The pacing is dull.

The one and only reason this is watchable is Toni Collette.

The protagonist is infuriatingly stupid. Like I’m screaming at the tv every second

More and more pieces don’t build up to a proper puzzle.

[Netflix] A thriller that loses steam as the mystery unravels, and even Toni Collette's effort to give her character some depth doesn't pan out. The story moves along such conventional paths that when it reaches the crossroads of facing her characters, it ends up being less solid. There are some accomplished moments, especially in the suspense at the beginning.

The show is a weak 6 out of 10 IMO. The storylines had so much potential but the execution wasn't great. Per usual, Toni Collette shines and she carries the show. In fact, the majority of the cast is above average, except for Bella Heathcote... She. Is. Terrible. Her character is an uneasy mixture of annoying and idiotic - and pretty much a worthless fucking moron for the first several episodes - but Heathcote's pathetically awful acting drives the character straight into unwatchable territory. If it weren't for Toni Collette, I would have stopped watching 15 minutes into the first episode.

:heart:x7
Don't listen to the negative comments here. This is a good crime/mystery show. However, based on the trailer it looks like the mother is a real bad-ass, but in reality, it's the daughter who ends up being the real bad-ass.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

There is so much to like about this series. The slow reveal of who Laura Oliver is and what actually happened to make this woman a mystery to her daughter. A stellar Australian cast performing in flawless American accents. North Sydney pinch hitting for South Carolina. This was a great mystery, well told with excellent performances. I give this series an 8 (great) out of 10. [Crime Mystery]

An interesting script with a plot full of twists, however I do feel like the execution of the series could have been better. There were times when the pacing felt a bit off, and some of the plot points felt rushed or underdeveloped. That being said, the acting was decent, and the characters were intriguing, making it easier to follow their journey.

Entertaining show, with the right amount of tension. Neverthelss, the daughter seems to be really really stupid.

I’d give this a solid good. It was predictable, a little slow paced at times, but engaging enough to keep me interested. I wanted to deeply care about the characters, and the way they unfolded the story helped, but it wasn’t like how I felt about the characters in Ozark. Either way, it was a good watch, beautifully shot and Tori was fantastic.

Unimaginative and lazy filmmaking. Toni Collette deserves better.

Gave up after five episodes ... just way too slow getting the messy storyline out, and the mains doing too many stupid things. Not sure why couldn't get an actor that looks plausible as a young Jane either ... annoying. On the other hand, twas good seeing so many Au actors here.

The jury is still out. It took a long time for the story to unfold before it became interesting enough to wonder what happens in the next episode. The girl is kind of an idiot, IMO, so it's the untold story of mom (Toni Collette) that is intriguing, but intriguing enough to watch a second season? Probably not, but we'll see.
