I tried to like this show, I really did. It started off strong then went completely downhill for me. Started to lose interest in it fast and felt the story wasn't really going anywhere. I'm not going to say to NOT watch it, because I still believe it's worth watching. I just hope they improve upon it.
Just like everybody says it starts off good and turns to crap. It’s a real weak attempt at poking fun at Christianity
I really want to love this show. Seth Rogan at the helm. AMC Drama. Dark, edgy, and violent. Unfortunately, something about it didn't really click for me. The first season was the best. Cleanest, most engaging, I enjoyed it. And then it slowly declined to the point of you needing to LOVE the premise to continue to highly enjoy it. If the summary sounds interesting, it is worth checking out if you are looking for a show (because you may be in the group that loves it). For me, it was just a bit strange and too much to highly enjoy the way I wanted to.
Average Season Review: 7.25/10
Recommendation: Watch if You Need Content (For AMC Drama Fans)
Despite the big, disappointing load of crap that the final season was, this show is pretty decent. It started off great with the first season, then starting going downhill with the second season onward, unfortunately. The comic book was much better, which I recommend you give a read, but this was somewhat of a decent adaptation. It had its moments. But the final season was disappointing, to say the least, so if you make it that far, and enjoyed the journey to that point, you'd be better off skipping it. It was such a mass disappointment and downfall compared to the beginning.
Can't find my shows help
I wish every episode had a directors comment. the first couple episodes really needed the commentary to understand. although I've never read the comics so that might not be the case for others. love the show though!
Perfect - just perfect!
I was only a casual reader of the comics, but I remember the characters and the style.
This show really nails it! - and the cast is excellent. I'm so excited for season two!
Here I was, thinking AMC couldn't add to their already stellar lineup. Can't wait to see where this goes.
please don't fuck it
A fantastic series so far, not sure why all the hate below. The characters are excellent and played very well, all highly likeable in their quirky ways. Enjoying the build up and uncertainty with each episode, leaves me feeling excited to see what happens in the next.
I highly recommend the series, enjoy it for what it is and don't critique every little detail.
Ok, I gave this show 3 chances. I am done. Boring, too slow paced, nothing like the comic. I understand budget constraint, but this is just like season two of The Walking Dead.
I am not into Texas dramas, that is small town stories about narrow-minded people who have more in common with Alabama than the modern world... however, this show is Surprisingly (notice the big S) good. Everything about this feels right. The actors, the vibe I get from them; the story, it looks fantastic so far; argh... just everything about this I LIKE!
I don't know where this came from!!!
Does it get good again? (Season 1 was great; season 2 was crap. Does it get better again?)
(BTW: There are no spoiler stuff here. Not unless you consider show quality changes to be spoilers.)
I finally committed time to trying the show. After having watched the first season, boy was I glad I did. I'd give that season an 8/10.
Then comes the second season.. where, amid some intermittent enjoyable elements (like some of the scenes with the lady Grail agent playing incognito roles, even those before we know of Grail; or, IIRC, the recruitment trials for Grail might have been amusing), it was very plainly a sludge (forced watching) forward to presumably-- hopefully-- get back to a part of the show that's worth watching. I figured that with a good first season under its belt, the runners of the show must have let some less included writers have a chance to guide a real TV show (resulting in a mish-mash of alternatively colored cow dung; not necessarily because the writers were objectively bad, but because they weren't melding their influences with what was already strong & expected from the show by way of its existing season)... But does whatever it is that went wrong with season 2 get undone in the seasons after?
I finally made it to the end of this bad season (2). There are two more available, meaning the show managed to stay on the air. Are they any better? Is it worth watching more, or did this show really only have one good season (1)?
This one is unreasonably hard to rate: while I would award season 1 a straight 7 stars, the following seasons not only wildly differ in quality, but consistently stay well below that mark. The 6 stars are a compromise reflecting that.
Amazing show. I have not read the comic yet; but they keep surprising you with more and more twists, meanwhile building upon the core storyline centered around twisting and reinventing - no spoiler - religious dogma. The best part is that EVERY mention of some "underground shady organization" turns out to be real and they show up in the most ridiculous ways; which sometimes makes it seem almost "plausible" in the real world.
Anyway, AMC is on fire right now and they need to keep coming out with shows that seem to defy everyone's expectations; but they definitely need to bring down the prices to purchase full seasons. Even better would be to stop "bundling" with other services that seem to continually increase prices over time and just charge 1$\episode to view the show off some mobile app; which would rake in millions.
Shake up the industry even more...:moneybag:
Wow! The first season had some lulls, but ended almost as spectacular and beautiful as it started.
Awesome show.. Get more strange every episode.. Love it..
A lot of the times the stories can be confusing, but the performances are pretty good. So, I will stick around at least until season 2.
Looking forward to watching more of this. Thought the pilot was good. Joe Gilgun is good casting.
It's odd that I'm going to the dissenting opinion here but... I thought the first season was pretty okay and then everything that followed was incredible. I guess it just depends on what you're expecting from this show? To me, it felt like the show got its footing on the second season because it started leaning into the comedy. It started to become more like Ash vs the Evil Dead, full of so many wonderful one liners and crazy concepts. So yeah I don't know, take that for what it's worth.
The first episode had a lot of things that were disconnected, and didn't make sense. I notice the comments here mention a comic book. I wonder why this would this would be a comic book. So strange.
I gave up the show on S04E03. The show declines and you can literally expect anything from the creators who do not follow a clear plot line. Disappointed.
I wonder how Christianity would be like today if Humperdoo was the one who preached and got nailed on the cross 2000 years ago. LMFAO! I love this show.
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Preacher’:
What the hell was the point of this entire series?
Herr Starr was the highlight of everything.
The show had some solid standout episodes and a few standout characters. But, with a deeply unsatisfying final season and series finale, it will only be known for those standouts... if it’s even known for anything at all.
Such a poor ending to such a good show.
9 - Superb
What a weird and amazing series, you've gotta like what it has to offer, but once you do it's amazing.
Mindbogglingly twisted, exceptionally gory, slightly vulgar and with very little nudity. A clash of many unlikely events told in a less than serious way. Lots of action and climax. Easily a likable show if you don't hate how they achieve the message.
Fantastically violent, literally outlandish, and narratively unforgiving.
Though it deviates extensively, it still honors Ennis's crypto-taxidermy of the American Christian mythos.
And the casting is unbelievably good.
This show is crazy. Crazy good that is...not for everyone but every episode is insanely good. Hope they keep making more seasons.
eugene did nothing wrong leave him olone
You either like this show or you don’t. I gave it a chance (for too long now) but it’s too morbid for me. The story is not something that will keep you interested as well. If you like to be appalled and that feeling like you’re going to throw up, then by all means this is the tv show for you.
Beautiful nonsense is the best way to describe this show.
Can't find my shows help
How it's possible a show like this have a worst rate than Arrow or Flash? Maybe the best show from DC right now
this show started off a little slow for me but as I kept watching it just got better and better
I looove this show!! So extreme and twisted characters, totally awesome. I understand the other negative comments about its slow story but you should not compare Preacher to other series airing now. It has its own style. Basically everything happens within that town. A bit of small town background, western, a little horror, twisted humor, messed up characters. Completely my kind of show!
my expectations were high, and i ended up getting disappointed...good show, but could have been much better!
got old fast forget it
The worst show Ive seen in a long time.
Worst show I've seen in quite some time. Corny and stupid. Acting isn't all bad, but the show is just whacky with a large dose of annoying.
The original comic book was some kind of absurd horror story with a touch of humor. In the pilot Seth Rogan successfully (sarcastically meant) converted it into its own parody.
I didn't like it. It was chaotic. The story was confusing. I could follow it because I know the original story, but my wife (who doesn't) didn't understand a single word of it. So anything that is good in the pilot is only good because the original story was good.
Off to a rough start, hope it gets better.
A show with lots of potential, first episode was great, looking forward to the next episodes.
As a non-comic reader that was a pretty promising pilot altough I did not understand what was going on sometimes but that is most likely going to change in later episodes.
Damm !! Read the sinopse and i was like "wtf". If it delivers half of what it says above, embrace yourselves, youre going on a hell of a ride ^^
Oh yea! Looking forward to another AMC hit show

If this show managed to capture the essence of the comic books, it should be pretty great.
