Ray Donovan: Season 5

5x08 Horses

This was a powerful episode. Certainly one of the best in the entire series. I could feel Rays heart breaking. It was palpable and raw. Truly wonderful performances all around. Abby and Ray were of course the stars of this episode. For this episode they both deserve Emmy nominations.

I really felt this one. This episode was desperately needed to portray the heartbreak of Abby's passing. The whole season has built up to this in some way or another, but this was the episode that really tied it all together. Before this, I felt as if something was terribly wrong about finding out about Abby's passing this season, but now I feel like everything is as it should be. I didn't want Abby's passing to be something taken lightly, and before this episode, I didn't feel the impact that it should have had. Although it made me quite sad, I'm glad this was episode was so thoughtfully made....except for that stupid horse's song.....fuck that song.

This is a truly hard episode... really. Rays face when he walks in the room is just perfect.. you can feel all his emotions coming out! This guys needs to get an Emmy just for this scene alone!!

Amazing performances from everyone around but Ray and Abby really pulled all the shoots and really need recognition for the acting in this episode.

It feels like this is the closing in f Abby’s arc. And it’s was beautifully done.. raw powerful and on the feels.

I really want to like this episode, and as a stand-alone episode, I guess I kinda do. It has fantastic acting throughout, and it's a very emotional episode. It was what was needed to show the impact of Abby's death. However, this has come way too late into this season. In order to get here, we've had to wait through 7 mostly boring, bad episodes of Ray Donovan, and these episodes had basically already told us what had happened already. The lead up from these first 7 episodes did not in any way 'build up' this episode. Instead, they took away from this episode. If this had been episode 1, 2, or maybe even 3, I'd probably have high praise for it. But at this point in the season, I'm honestly annoyed that they took the time to go back in time again, rather than making any sort of progress on what's happening in the now.

This season has been a mess all-around thus far, and I struggle to see how it could be any better in the remaining 4 episodes. One of the biggest drop-offs in quality I've ever seen from a TV show in a single season.

Generally I do not like flashbacks, or even sad episodes full of emotions. I don't know, it's just my taste. However, this episode was strong, in every possible way. The performances and the dialogues are really well done.
