Bacchus --Caravaggio, 1596 The fruit continues to rot. A wormy apple, a putrefying peach, a pomegranate so ripe it has split open like a knifed gut. Everything's breaking down into simple sugars, water, mineral salts. The stench is marvelous, but Bacchus doesn't care. Hes young, young always. The wine is drinkable. The night, also, is young.

Bacchus
--Caravaggio, 1596
The fruit continues to rot. A wormy apple, a putrefying peach, a pomegranate so ripe it has split open
like a knifed gut. Everything's breaking down into simple sugars,
water, mineral salts. The stench is marvelous,
but Bacchus doesn't care.
Hes young,
young always.
The wine is drinkable.
The night, also, is young.
