1/4 Rolf Harris explores the life of Sir Kyffin Williams, the Anglesey-born artist, world-famous for his dramatic Welsh landscapes and amazing portraits. Rolf visits the places that inspired Kyffin most on Ynys Mon and Snowdonia, and makes some revealing discoveries before attempting a painting in Sir Kyffin's highly original style.
2/4 Rolf Harris goes on an entertaining and personal journey to discover more about four artists inspired by Wales and its people. In this episode, he explores the life of the Polish-born Josef Herman - the political artist who fled Nazi-occupied Warsaw and settled in the small mining community of Ystradgynlais in the Swansea valley. Rolf finds out why Herman was so inspired to paint miners as working class heroes, before attempting a painting in his style. However, Rolf's painting doesn't go according to plan.
3/4 Rolf meets fellow Australian Shani Rhys James, the hugely successful painter who has chosen Wales as her home. Shani's dramatic self portraits are directly influenced by her family history and childhood experiences so before Rolf attempts a self portrait in Shani's style, he goes back to Merthyr to discover more about his own family's Welsh roots and makes a startling revelation about a family scandal that rocked polite Victorian society.
4.4 Rolf explores the life and work of the acclaimed painter Graham Sutherland, who in the 1930s and 40s became one of the most famous artists in the world thanks to his passion for painting the Pembrokeshire landscape. In trying to understand what inspired Sutherland most, Rolf enjoys the astounding beauty of stretches of the west Wales coastline, before imitating one of Sutherland's most challenging and stunning abstract paintings.
