This year’s Royal Variety Performance is notable for a couple of firsts. It is the first time in the event’s 99-year history that it has been held in Salford and the first time in 20 years that it hasn’t been attended by either the Queen or the Prince of Wales. Whether or not these two things are related has been a matter of some conjecture. But it also marks the first outing under ITV1’s exclusive ten-year deal to screen the show, after years of playing tag-team with the BBC.

The Royal Variety Performance 2019 took place on Monday, November 18, 2019 at the London Palladium Theatre. Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan will be the joint hosts of the show. Since its inception, the Royal Variety Performance has been watched by over 152 million TV viewers worldwide, making it the most successful and longest-running entertainment show in the world.
All of our artists and crew will of course be strictly observing social-distancing and other safety measures, but the lockdown restrictions mean that alas, we’re prohibited from having a physical audience.
We will, therefore, for the very first time be staging the show with a virtual theatre audience, allowing you the chance to watch the show live from the comfort of your own home! The performers will even be able to see the audiences’ faces as they are displayed on screens placed across the seats of the stalls and circle!
Alan Carr hosts the event from the Royal Albert Hall, with music from Ed Sheeran, Rod Stewart, Anne-Marie, James Blunt, Years & Years, Gregory Porter and Elvis Costello, along with The Greatest Showman's Keala Settle. There is comedy from Judi Love, Bill Bailey, Chris McCausland and Josh Widdicombe, and performances by the casts of hit musicals Moulin Rouge and Matilda.
Lee Mack hosts the 2022 edition of the Royal Albert Hall event, including performances from Nile Rodgers and Chic, the cast of Cabaret, and magic sensations The Ehrlich Brothers.
