This wasn't too bad although as a fan of the film I am going to be more critical. If you have never seen the film then you'll probably accept the characters as presented but they are closely aping the performances of Sir Ben Kingsley and Ray Winstone (and other support cast), with Emun Elliot's version of Don Logan being the most obvious copy since Don is such an idiosyncratic character. It was probably a good choice to go back so far in time to make this prequel so Don hasn't yet become quite as full on and unrelenting as he is in the film. James McArdle has an easier job as far as copying the film characters goes because Gal is much more softly spoken and doesn't draw attention to himself. It felt like they had made a list of words used in the film and tried to cram as many into this episode (and maybe others) as if in the years between this and the film they used the same limited vocabulary without their language evolving at all.
I'm curious to see where they go with this and if the show eases into being its own thing but I am worried they might back themselves into a corner in terms of believability.
