This season has by far the worst acting the show has seen. Seeing how actors perform in a non-modern setting is an excellent way to test their skills and sadly very few of them here were able to rise to the challenge. Many of them--including the main detective, unfortunately--feel like soap opera extras wearing costumes rather than real characters. There was seemingly no direction to the Victorian-era Canadian setting so accents are all over the place. It's sometimes very theatery and second-screeny with characters announcing who they are to boot, like "Oh, youngest sister, newly arrived from Boston! At last, all three of us Botticelli sisters are together!" yet at other times nothing at all like this, with the main character in particular sounding like any modern-day Canadian trying hard to use old-timey language.

The role of Basil Garvey (Eric McCormack) was the standout performance of the series.
