Michelle Yeoh is just so damn good in every scene she's in. She was an excellent bit of casting. This was a really fun episode and so far I'm loving this season.

No problem killing all of the henchmen but don't kill the head bad guy. Poor henchmen were likely coerced or forced into service. Probably entire families starving now.

Can't see any issue with letting him live.

Better than the last episode, but still not really feeling it. Not sure what it is, but this doesn't feel like Star Trek to me. Hmm

Now one ship, 88 crew(the ones in the sickbay included), have vowed to drive back the night and rekindle the light of civilization. On the starship Discovery... hope lives again.

F. yes I'm gonna drop Andromeda quotes the entire season!

Either hair grows really fast in this time/space, or someone found the galaxies only hair extensions!

As always, Saru is the best part of everything he is in. If they ever killed off this character I'd probably give up on this show, he's that good.

Michelle Yeoh really steals this episode. So far, so good with the story and character development.

Anybody else notice how similar the plot for season 3 is to Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda?

loading replies

I keep thinking that Saru is a really good commander but then he gets off the ship and does something so "redshirt."

Kickass episode, one of my favourite thus far. If only the purists would just allow themselves to be entertained...

Damn, there goes my hope after 3x01, that the writers learned how develop interesting characters.

I don't know how they manage it, but somehow the complete crew of the Discovery is blessed with diverse character flaws, making it a challenge to like them and almost impossible to identify myself with them. This crew literally feels alien to me.
And Georgiou as the antipode for the Federation in general, won't be enough to save the show.

That the plot is so very very generic certainly didn't help either.

It just occurred to me.. why do none of the space ships come equipped with seatbelts?

7.5/10

Yes Star Trek Discovery is just absolutely super frickin awesome amazing and I love everything about it, it's flawless Masterpiece and every episode could be it's own movie for the
1 million dollars + they spend on each episode.
I love how not just the crew/family have to adjust to being in the future but we do as well, it's Awesome how much Discovery let's us get invested and literally let's us be apart of the Discovery the coolest ship ever in the history of Trek.
I can feel already this season is going to be a lively one and totally frickin awesome amazing fantastic spectacular,
Just like this show is through and through.

I don't really like how many TV shows overdo damage to ships. The USS Discovery crash at the beginning was way over the top (and not for the first time in this show). IMO if there are sparks at the inside of the control rum, if the hull integrity is too low, and if the computers are damaged/offline you're simply out of luck - even with Sci-Fi technology. Also the intense camera shaking can really get annoying.

IMO they should just do some crazy and close evasive maneuvers and maybe hit / crash into some objects (asteroids) with the shields (i.e. no hull damage). That might even create more suspense. I found the way they're damaging the ship so ridiculous that it just wasn't really exciting to watch and of course we already know that they'll survive.

Anyway, I was expecting / hoped to see Michael at the end but I certainly didn't expect that haircut :D
Also: It seemed like Saru considered not answering the hail and maybe even attacking? That wouldn't make much sense as they basically have no choice (their technology would be way too outdated for a fight).

Michelle Yeoh at the bar wanting to say, go ahead, make my day. This looks like the Andromeda series

This episode felt like it wanted to be Firefly to me. It was more Trek than the last episode, with being aboard a ship again, and at least some characters following some sort of federation ideology again, but it still didn't quite capture the Star Trek feeling for me.

"A fancy vocabulary doesn't mean you're scary. It means you have a thesaurus." Glad to have Michelle Yeoh back regularly again.

Yes, we get it. You guys like western movies. Could we just see something else in the episodes to come?

Really like the inclusion of, “Dot,” in the opening credits (from the, “Short Trek, Ephraim and Dot)!
And, I’m feelin’ it…this and the first episode (!)
:joy:
