Works well for two seasons, before, for unfathomable reasons, the showrunners decided “conflict” doesn’t mean life throwing lethal curveballs at a bunch of would-be entrepreneurs anymore, but “people making bad decisions and not talking to each other”, and replaced a set of reliably murderous Russian thugs and Martin Freeman’s, conflicted, corrupt, only occasionally murderous FBI agent by an obsessive-compulsive federal intelligence agent just to ram the point home.
Over half way through this series now and it's pretty decent. Little slow at times and some of the storylines become a little disjointed but on the whole it's enjoyable and easy to follow. Martin Freeman helps, not sure how well it would do without him.
A TV Series to get by when you don’t have any of the Good Stuff left. I’m not saying it’s extremely bad or cartoonish (you can find a lot of that already in mainstream procedural type of shows) but just suffice to say that the best acting by far of the whole team is performed by Edi Gathegi as Ronald in almost every episode of all seasons (1 & 2) and that a few of the secondary (or lower) actors show better acting that most of the main characters.
I would say its watchable as long as you are willing to put with some mediocre acting, scripts and direction. But watch it in a row because if you stop, I think you won’t bother coming back to see how it ends.
Season 3 episode 7: presents a great moral dilemma. What would you do. And Izzy...that girl does not learn. Through all 3 seasons...keeps making same mistake over & over.
I don't know whey this show does not have so many great reviews. I found it to be entertaining & a good format for a story line. I originally got interested because the show portrayed itself around Bitcoin. Once I watched it, I was hooked. The show gets a lot right about the strange world of crypto-currency.
I work for a company that was hired to build a new crypto-currency using Ethereum around the time season 1 came out. coincidentally the name was very close to "Gen-Coin". It was for a guy out of China but listed his company as a U.S. entity based out of LA. We put several great coders to work to build the new crypto-currency. We had the currency & the exchange up and running. Eventually we found out the guy was using the new currency as a ponzi scheme. He eventually got arrested trying to flee china & was thrown in jail for the scam. At the end we got burnt, lost a lot money, and got a crash course in the ways of the dark web and the new age of crypto-currency.
This is what got me interested in the show. Based on my experience, I would say this is a great show. Granted sometimes it feels little far fetched but it's very entertaining. It gives a great window into the world of startups as well as the new world of dark web & blockchain.
It was a nice tv show, BUT with a open end.
Started of being cool, but turned into something that it wasn't in my opinion. Still had a good time though.
Good enough series IMO. Good story line (if a little drawn out out times) but season 1 is definitely the best, tails off some over season 2 and especially season 3. Good cast and great acting most of the time and makes a great change from the flood of super-hero drivel and the standard cop 'who dunnit' stuff. The only thing that grates on me with many series these days is that they just get abandoned rather than finished, as happened here, pulled after the 3rd season.
The characters are all well portrayed, the only annoyance for me being little miss 'Sulkatita', Izzy Morales who does nothing but moan, frown and sulk throughout; when she's not rolling her eyes or shaking head (because in HER eyes everyone else is a dick) she ranting and raving. Odd that anyone helps or even wants to have anything to do with her at all really given how immature and selfish she is, she has a downer on just about everyone and is prone to childish temper tantrums whenever she's not getting her own way, which is most of the time. IMO the attitude of that character could have done with being dialled back some, it gets tiresome. The other problem with it is that there are some gaping holes in the story line with threads from previous episode just being glossed over or even dropped entirely, smacks of lazy writing or a 'can't be bothered with that anymore' approach. 7 overall but that's helped a lot by season 1.
Well I'm loving it. Sad there's no more seasons.
Good Show Till Season 2 But Season 3 Is F****d(Terrible).
I actually dig it. Nick is a total psycho, Isabelle a bi queen and I’m a simp for Ronald. Love how the story unfolds and where Araknet reaches, the demise of GenCoin. I’m into it. Can’t wait for season 4!
1st season pretty surprisingly (because of hobbit how really nails) good. However 2nd seasons usual nowadays is pushing lgbtqwerty+ agenda... not so much (at least till S02E04) as other Netflix production but still and it must to be mentioned. Why they do that is really important question....why they trying so hard to show abnormal unnatural behavior as normal ? Any normal healthy man wont jump in bed with his male friend because this is GROSS for him!!! This is in our DNA! And nothing will change that !!Never ever! But in Netflix world every third or fifth man suffer from sexual disorder and is gay. Lol..
So lame (read: technically wrong, inaccurate, very very lame), so bad. FBI witnesses the meeting of 3 people, gangster, young banker with clean record and the cuban-american "hacker" and they wonder what those 3 people are up to ... nobody in the fcin FBI can't use Google? Izzi signed herself everywhere on hers project (GenCoin) page. And Gencoin vs Bitcoin and others? ... We are the best one. We're THE one. no comment.
I love Martin Freeman but imho this kind, kinda short man fits into the (sorry) much more submissive and vulnerable role. I still can't believe to agent Rask persona and his badass-FBI-agent style.
I left the series after first 3 episodes. Thank you but no thank you.
I was very disappointed with this show. I started watching because... Martin Freeman (like almost every girl on the planet). However, his acting couldn't save this show. I love the idea but it wasn't fleshed out well. The part where Phil kills his partner and then confesses to his friend with benefits then moves on to sit in his car and comes to terms with his actions; was the only part that made me feel excited about this show. I have no drive or need to watch season 2. Only watch this if you are so in love with any of these actors that you can sit through 10 episodes of trash. I will link a really good review.
Don't waste your time. Not even for Martin Freeman.
