Definitely worth watching. Starts out slow and carries on that way for a while, but definitely picks up after around 10 episodes. Has great character and plot development as a result. Really interesting to think about and to watch. Would recommend highly.
My favourite anime. A Masterpiece.
There are so many flaws in this series if you look at each episode closely. There are plot-holes, things that don't quite make sense, and things that just seem strange. But then you take a look back at the series and the way it weaves and turns like a crazy ball of string, you realize how masterfully done the story was. It felt like a crazy, disordered story because that's symbolic of the "weebly wobbly, timey wimey stuff". But despite all the timeline shenanigans, I followed the story without issue.
The first 10 episodes start very linearly and get you setup. Then I hope you were paying attention, because things start to get crazy.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one and I'd recommend it to pretty much everyone. This show has like 8 genres and it does a great job with each one of them.
Steam through the first 11 or so episodes, cause simply put stuff gets real at that point, and somehow gets even more epic And it may be my favourite time travel story ever. Watch the damn show already
The Greatest Piece Of Fiction Ever Written
I normally lose interest in a show very quickly once I finish it, but it's been over a year since I finished Steins;Gate and I still think about it daily. If you haven't watched it yet, you really should!
My absolute favourite anime. Watch it now if you haven't already.
"The universe has a beginning, but no end." Steins;Gate is a masterpiece that explores the concept of time. Highly recommend this for anime neophytes and experts alike. The dialogue and humor are intelligent and abundant. The show perfectly blends comedy, drama, and mystery. Unlike some of the more Shonen (a.k.a. youth) animes, the characters here aren't overexaggerated and go a little lighter on some of the classic anime character tropes. Follow the "mad scientist" Hououin Kyouma, as he and the other members of the Future Gadget Laboratory create a device that has the potential to change the world. Expect lots of twists, turns and unforeseen consequences. The logic of the show is really well thought out and explored for us viewers. Everyone should give this show a full watch, regardless of their opinions on anime. The story is just that good.
While I'll be reviewing them separately, if you like Steins;Gate, there are a few other things you should watch after. I've listed them below in chronological order. However, Steins;Gate first timers should watch: (1) Steins;Gate in full; (2) Alternate Episode 23β; (3) Steins;Gate 0 in full; (4) Egoistic Poriomania; and (5) The Movie. If that isn't enough, there are a few other OVAs you can check out between Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate 0. Trakt has most of them in the specials section.
(1) Steins;Gate (Episode 1-22)
(2) Steins;Gate: Open the Missing Link – Divide By Zero (Episode 23β)
(3) Steins;Gate 0
(4) Steins;Gate: (Episode 23-24)
(5) Stens;Gate: Egoistic Poriomania
(6) Steins;Gate Movie: Load Region of Déjà vu
Tutturu!
9/10 (REAL RATING TBA)
This is the anime that got me into anime. It's a slow-burn to start off with and the humor is definitely of its time but when the show finally hits its groove, it's hard to find a TV show or movie I enjoy more. It's great to watch on the first time through but brilliant on any subsequent watches.
I am a bit foncused because I am pretty sure I watched this on netflix recently but it isn't listed here. if you want to watch this, check out whether it is online there!
This is the first anime I’ve watched in years, and now I feel like whatever anime I watch after this will pale in comparison lol. Took me a while to finish because I sorta gave up a couple episodes in (also I was busy...) but I’m really glad I finished it. If you’re having a tough time getting through the beginning, trust myself and every other commenter when we say keep watching til you get to episode 10/11, because you won’t want to stop after that.
You may be deceived by what appears to be a rather generically unrealistic male protagonist, his token unlikeable (by the other sex) male friend, and the protagonist's female harem. However, it's none of these attributes. Not in any manner. Each character's personality is well developed, through situations I initially never considered might occur.
I sincerely recommend this, as much as I recommend any high-budget live-action masterpiece that has touched me similarly. I value it the same too.
Not sure if it's reputation proceeds it, or if I spent too much time reading reviews about how its the best show ever before watching it, but boy was this an over hyped disappointment.
The positive is that there are a lot of endearing characters, and the show does get pretty suspenseful in the LAST half, but the first half of the show is an absolute slog and the main character is one of the worst main characters I've ever suffered through. Terrible decision making and frustrating dialog plagues this show throughout its whole runtime.
While I don't want to pick apart any plot-holes or be overly critical on time travel stories and things I don't understand at all, I will say there is so many inconsistencies to the "rules" and "logic" of time travel that even a complete sci-fi noob would notice the illogical situations that happen.
Overall, while I don't regret watching it, I do feel disappointed with the time I spent with it. I can't comprehend how people put this up there with FMA, Death Note, and Code Geass, but maybe i'm just in another timeline or something.
Don't get bored by the first 6 episodes, after that it is the best anime I have ever seen. Will definitely rewatch.
One of my favorite animes 20/10
Starts off really boring and uninteresting but gets better each ep and ends with a loud bang
However much you may want to switch this off when it starts... don't.
It's a bit like Inception meets Back to the Future while eating acid gummy bears.
Anime fans have complained for the past few years that the quality of anime has gone down, this is one of the series that bought it back up. It is one of the best sci fi anime series ever. Starts out slow but becomes a good thriller towards the end.
Best Anime I've ever watched.
As soon I completed this amazing series, I understood where the title from episode 1 came from.
Indeed! I'm glad I didn't stop watching in the first few episodes. It's the kind of series where it starts with slow development, then picks up in the middle and everything comes together in the end. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Awesome Anime.
My first anime after watching death note, after going through a list of anime's this one looked interesting. I never regretted watching it, I've watched it 3 times already. People who never watch anime should see this and death note, and after that you will search for more and more... Just to get those steins;gate feelings back. The only anime after death note and steins;gate that reached the same level of awesomeness was Code Geass.
this is my real introduction to anime and honestly I’m excited to keep exploring more. Great storyline, no loose ends and everything makes sense at the end, which is hard with tic shows which have time travel concept. You can watch it a few times and still find things you missed during first episodes, truly great production.
As most people have stated, this anime takes a while to get going, but I think it's well worth the wait. This anime is very well thought out and has so many twist and turns in it. If you like an anime that makes you think and question what's going on, then you'll love this.
Man, I got pretty confused while watching this, but it was an insanely wild ride. I wasn’t expecting it to be as character-focused as it was, but it was a welcome surprise!
It's a shame that it starts slow and is kind of childish at times, because it's great otherwise.
decade ago i started this dropped at ep 6.
at 2021, i started and dropped it again .at ep 5.
he is saying ibm someshit computer is the only cpu that can run code blah.
its annoying that creator is ignorant about cs.
was good until it got transphobic. yeaaah, no.
One of the best anime in recent years.
highly recommended!
Slow start, don't give up on it!

I want to thank the other commenter who said it picks up after 10 episodes, because I was ready to bail after a few episodes, but I'm glad I stuck around because after the 11th episodes it's almost a different show.
Anime is not my main pastime, I'm more of a movies/tv guy, so when this turned out to be slow and a little bit silly (in comparison to the other stuff I watch) I was ready to ditch it, but the show switches to a different tone and gets a little bit dark in the second act of the story, it gets real and deep, and it was apparent then why people love this little anime, it's real good.
So, I'd advise everybody to stick around a little bit with this gem, you will be rewarded for your patience with a great story that will touch you and move you, because behind all that sci-fi and mystery there's real emotions.... goddamnit just watch it already...
