If the main actor wasn't Tom Hardy this show would probably would be incredibly boring. But his performance is consistently captivating! Very well done.
what's taking them so long for season 2!?
Though it might not have the suspense or the plot twists of some of the greatest TV series, it is indeed a very very good one. A show well done in almost every aspect. Maybe the plot isn't the most interesting one, but it does include several layers. The atmosphere is incredible, the casting/acting top notch, costumes/sets excellent and image quality superb.
The scenario did include the element of the supernatural but in a way that the viewer is not really sure and is also addressing several of the racism matters of its time. The fact that there are some characters more pragmatic and some more believers show that the makers have their own view on the supernatural elements that the people of that time believed in. Ignorance created myths and that is the most interesting part of it. I hope the next season truly unveils its potential.
When is season two coming out?Been years now since season one.
Be very careful now! Mmm, powdah!
Level "Excellent" • 8 :heart: • Recommended.
If Penny Dreadful and Vikings conceived a child, it would be Taboo. Great show so far!
Why does it say "Ended"?
Wish you guys would list this in the calendar based on the FX airing in the US instead of the UK BBC One airing. Just seems that would make more sense. Or at the very least list both and allow users to select which one they want added to their calendar.
Tom Hardy is, AS always excellent In a role - menacing, and downright scary. Like the show so far..
i'm so hyped for this!!
What.....ended?FFS!!!ive been waiting years for season 2!
Where and when is season 2?
A relationship, taboo, – Britons seem to be "intelligent" enough to avoid practicing the levels of hypocrisy regarding sex and faux morality exhibited by their cousins from across the Ocean, more so now that they have a walking & talking Dyed Kind of Blond Toupee as President Elect;
How a very powerful economic enterprise with its evil machinations arm wrestle with the political power to have the latter do as the former desires for its own benefit over and above of those of those of The Empire, The Crown or The People;
A conspiracy which rapidly evolves into a highly sophisticated and complex three hand chess match where every move of any party is responded strategically by either a defensive or an ofesive move tactic from the rest;
And just one man has the intelligence, smarts and guts to come to the become convinced at heart that he's who holds a chess wildcard that'll eventually determine who wins or loses the match. In his hand lays the power to exchange the wildcard for whatever he wishes to any of the other player/s which hold very high stakes the outcome of the match;
That is a man with lots of potential power in his hand but at extreme personal peril, there are no rules in this game, and eliminating him is a valid way to get hold of the wildcard. The only way to survive is by initially being the brightest, smartest, fastest and toughest of all, then he may have the chance to play each opponents against the other, and that could let him to outplay both and get out alive, made an extremely rich man with a little of lots of luck.
The only thing missing in the script is Dickens' signature.
P.S.
If you see the critic from an Inkoo Kang self named MTV's chief TV critic, please send her message a reminding her that still writing TV reviews for what is a decadent "Pop Outlet" (that's been suffering and identity crisis since music video streaming became the norm and MTV didn't want to see it, but worse after all these years they still haven't figured what they're and the relevance of their existence, meanwhile they had totally lost their clout with everyone, but more so, if it's even possible, with the YOLO generation) and being so off the point in her critiques is probably the two reasons why she has not been able to move up the ladder to a more "respectable", influential and thriving media outlets like the LATimes, BostoGlobe or NYTimes. If I were her I would start writing better critiques yesterday to land a semi-decent job when sooner than later MTV forecloses or otherwise it's broadcasting network is striped, sold and everything else made redundant.
This was fucking amazing. Nothing more to say about it. I can't wait for season 2.
very very very very good
Great first episode, certainly promising. weirdly the mannerisms of Hardy's character really remind me of "Vikings" Ragnar Lothbrook..
This Is Batman british history. well done. 8.5/10. Drama, action, hardcore scenes. Low budget but great series.
Absolutely terrible. Drags on and on in which I fell asleep many times. Very slow moving. Tom hardy’s acting was very disappointing as his character was devoid of any emotion throughout the series.
(304-word review) If you're looking for a show to watch, this one is good. The only negative thing to say about it is that the pacing is notably slow; this show is a prime example of a slow burn. I wasn't too bothered by it, but I know some people would be. Besides that, it's very underrated. There's a good chance you'll be unsure whether to watch it because of that, but it's worth it; pretty much everything about it is fantastic and well done.
The story is an interesting one, not to mention captivating; the writing alongside it was complementary. The visuals/production design was good, as was the cinematography by Mark Patten. The score by Max Richter was exceptional, by far one of the best aspects of the show, and I hope he'll return for the second season. All the performances were outstanding, with Tom Hardy at the forefront, as you can imagine; however, don't get me mistaken: everyone else was as good, and I mean that wholeheartedly. Jonathan Pryce, Jefferson Hall, and David Hayman were noticeably stand-outs.
It's a shame that this show didn't quite land when it was airing, as it's genuinely a good one, and based on how the first season ended, the second season will likely be even better. The reception has improved over the years since its airing: people seem to appreciate it more, undoubtedly doing this show a lot of good, although it's still somewhat under the radar, which I hope will change with the second season by triggering a big popularity surge. If any show deserves that, it's this one.
There isn't much else to say. This show is a hidden gem that deserves to be upgraded to a visible one, IMO. It's entertaining and compelling to an adequate degree. The second season can't come soon enough.
I found the show awful. The storyline was confusing, difficult to follow and messy. The cast was excellently done, but the script was so poor that the actors didn't shine through. Hardy made an impression with his role, but I can't decipher if it's good or bad to be honest. I hated the relationship between him and his sister, it made no sense, was gross and took over too much of the already messy storyline. The show tried to be creative but it flopped.
Waste of time, co.completely uninteresting and just a jumbled mess. Stopped watching after 27 minutes.
WOW. Interesting trama and drama. All the episodies have something special. High quality of photography!!
He is a legend.
Absolutely loved this!! I’m in desperate need of more seasons!!!
Doesn't float my boat. I enjoyed the settings, but the taboo aspect of it leaves me cold.
Si no fuera un Hardynista, probablemente no hubiera pasado del capítulo 2. La parte de la trama en la que no sale es zzzzzzzzzz.
I like Steven Knight's writing a lot (no wonder Eastern Promises is one of my favourite films ever) but his television writing is still kind of new to me, I think there are things in this that didn't quite worked, but the whole bizarre aura that this has, mostly because of the cast (Hardy, front and center) really made a fun to watch. Now I have to resume Peaky Blinders...
As much as I enjoy watching Tom Hardy...this was boring af....
This one of those things made me to feel how can be to wrong side in right time all alone and the power of the ( free M.............) try to buy you out!!! Believe me I was there still are!!!!
Very boring show that try's to be so serious and dark that it comes off as corny. Dirty ugly characters that is shot in a way that makes me think of clock work orange. Tries to get attention with promises of shock value but takes to long to get started. There is many taboo topics covered in Taboo, but they are presented in a way that makes me yawn.
Excellente série. Tom Hardy est magnifique comme toujours. J'espère une saison 2 ❤
Great show! Grit, grime, twists, mystery... all good. Tom Hardy is perfect in the main role.
This is just amazing. Fantastic! Tom Hardy at is best.
Tom seeks to rely on his popularity in the first place for the success of this work despite the fact that this work start does not seem to be bad, but at the same time not the amazing that i hoped for despite also we can not discern the features of the plot just only the key to the theme but I am still in thrall to follow the rest indeed Overall performance of Jonathon is terrific, Notka her area is private, cold war between the Americans and the British strategy and plan for Border demarcation that's all.. The atmosphere of the eighties and the decor its almost perfect depts were paid and whores gonna find another place the son is back and demand for his father legacy but its not money its more than a coins..more..
im really liking this so far!!
