Too much fuckin family drama in the second half

Season five has matured, though not as much in the dialogue department as I would have liked. Cinematography needs to bridge the emotional elements closer to the chest with tighter, more creative shots during interactions. Hands down the best modern space sci-fi available, without contest, but continued refinement and expansion will be necessary to make it a franchise.

What a shitty season. They might as well cancel it now. The show has nothing more to say and it's circling itself to fill the time.

Literally worst season of the show. Space movie with 5% of space adventure and 95% emotional games between already linked characters

Now that I'm done, I can see it working as a book, but as a show this is fractured even more than Season 4, with the core cast separating into their own storylines, and I feel the showrunners slightly miscalibrate the weight of each one. This season already scales down from the cosmic and/or mysterious into more human conflicts (that are still hugely, vastly interspace, mind), and on top of that giving most screentime to Naomi's family drama makes the season feel even lopsided towards the mundane, when Amos' journey through post-apocalyptic world or Avasarala's interplanetary politics' play feel more apt for the main stories. Still largely gripping as it has ever been (and the status quo-altering fourth episode is up there with the best of the series), but I hope that (great) finale's tantalizing cliffhanger is a sign that the show will wrap up on a grand scale in its next final season.

Season 2 (A) > Season 3 (A) >> Season 4 (B+) > Season 5 (B+) > Season 1 (B+)

Not as good as previous seasons in my opinion.

What I particularly didn't like was the family drama between. And since it's pretty much a crucial part of this season it drags down everything else. Also the fact that everyone has their own little story going on in different parts of the solar system. I don't know, didn't like it so much. Felt like Lord or The Rings or something where everyone can be a hero in their little adventure.
Please don't do this in next season. Don't try new shit, the way it was was more than fine.

But hey it's still much better than the latest Star Trek series we get on Netflix, by far.

This is my second favorite season after the first. I thoroughly enjoyed everyone’s story this season. The character development and space scenes were superb!

What the hell?! I liked this season and I love this show, but that last episode... why the hell did they killed off Alex Kamal like that? His death was so sudden and random, especially given what Naomi went through I was almost certain that SHE will bite the dust, instead the show does a 180 and just offs Alex... WTF!?
Also I gotta agree with other comments, there was a bit too much personal drama, I actually skipped some moments that dragged on too much and didn't impact the story in any way...

I enjoy this show most of the time but it's been difficult to maintain the interest to keep watching at times. This season is is a classic example of why. I'm only about half way through but the Naomi family domestic drama is taking up WAY too much of the viewing time (like all of it in some episodes!). Nothing other than her whimpering and crying all the time and her dumb son trying to find his direction (no wonder she left before with a drip like him as a son). This series was all about the greater problems of the galaxy and the rings, who gives a damn about Naomi and her damn kid? Season 5 should have been made a separate show called Naomi, at least then you could skip it! The other that that's always REALLY grated on me with Holden and Naomi is that for a couple of lovers (supposedly) they have absolutely zero, and I mean ZERO, chemistry together. I'm not sure whether they are both just crap actors on the emotional level or whether they plain just dislike each other but it sticks out a mile.

Still love the show. Many twists in this season, but I really like that I can relate to some of the characters, and (as always) I love the believable effects and props.

Everything that happened could have been told in half the episodes, they unnecessarily stretched it too far.

I feel like s4 and s5 could have been one season leading up to events we see at the end of s5.
This is still good television.

What the hell happened with this season???

The Expanse was one of the most promising sci-fi shows of the past decade, but they really dropped the ball with this season. It felt drawn-out, meandering and probably worst of all dull (at times). Some characters fared better than others (What a shit season for alex, bobby and naomi). The major mystery carried over from season 4 regarding the big mysteries of the show are completely absent here, dropped to focus on new villain Marcos Inaros, by far the worst villain the show has produced, especially after Burn Gormans brilliant turn as Murtry in Season 4.

I sincerely hope they can rescue this show for its final season on Amazon with Season 6 next year...
