This show is seriously killing my brain cells right now.
Aunt Lydia to me is the only person that is remotely interesting at this point.
Four episodes in, and it's clear that this show has truly gone to shit. The Lydia stuff is the only remotely interesting stuff going on. The stuff with Serena and June is just so dumb and poorly written. I can't help but cringe every time June speaks - insane considering how fantastic she was in the early seasons.
I hope there's a huge payoff coming because this show is so slow at the moment.
Is Nick burned?
Is Luke finally going to do something?
How come Moira is timid now?
I'm happy Janine has been reset to s1 spirit but aunt Lydia needs to die, not redeemed.
Serena is sometimes defiant and at other times she's paralyzed by fear.
Agent Tuello is such a huge disappointment and I can't understand what commander Lawrence is doing
It's like they all developed multiple personalities that switch every episode or sometimes every scene. I hope I'm missing something because otherwise the writing has gone downhill by a LOT.
I know this was never going to be a Wolverines type of show but how much do you freaking need before you fight back.
add "I watched a YouTube video" to the list of unreasonably funny June quotes
"God, you are such a f*cking disappointment"
Hey, its the show in nutshell!
The ongoing battle between Serena and June is actually great to follow. Of course I'm rooting for June because of all she represents - let's face it... June on her own is not a very likable character but maybe considering all she's been put through she is actually an honest representation of what happens to a person after all that trauma - but Serena is so magnetic. I get Mark... you want to trust that she'll do better... but then she doesn't and maybe that's also an accurate representation of someone who has basically lived in a cult and has taken those ideals to their own (not to mention that Serena has been at the head of that since day one).
I honestly think Joseph is playing Serena. He is not a black and white character. He has stabbed Gilead in the back before and sided with June before so I can't help but think he's playing a long con on Serena.
The only reason Serena is safe right now is because she is carrying that baby.. once he's out...? Who knows.
There's 10 minutes worth of plot in this episode
June doing everything except getting a therapist omg.
some shows make the mistake of building up to much action and no character development at all. The Handmaid's Tale didn't do that. This show is all about character development while nothing ever happens. NOTHING.
This was one of the weakest episodes yet - June's situation drags on, there's no development. She's been on edge for a whole season now, and it gets tiresome. Either do something or don't but this vaccilating in-between gets annoying. And of course, she can't shoot a pregnant woman...
There were some redeeming qualities in this episode: Janine standing up to Lydia, Lydia and Lawrence's discussion (what's his agenda? It's really a shame that I binge on West Wing simultaneously, so I love to get my Whitford dosage, in whatever series... doesn't mean I don't despise all the manipulating he's doing right now... unless he's outmanipulating Serena, then he can go on manipulating all he wants), Luke and Serena (finally, he gets a taste of her manipulation, and doesn't what she's saying, ring true just a tiny little bit?). But who knows, perhaps Serena gets her come-uppance at this new family's, the wife seems a bit deranged to me.
Otherwise, I hope this picks up speed again soon. And I know this is essentially Moss's show now, so June won't be written out - but unless that character gets something to do other than looking into the camera with always the same torn facial expression, there's not much use for June anymore because I'm sorry to say, but almost every other character's more interesting right now.
I’m hoping episode five gets a little more interesting.

Here I am thinking Aunt Lydia is going soft and will finally break, and she goes "COME ON JANINE LET'S KEEP THOSE GIRLS ON GOD'S PATH" again.
Also, Alanis/Mrs. Ryan Wheeler looks like a loony, and there was a huge "unofficial handmaid vibe" around Serena as she will stay with what looks like a powerful couple. If things go south, I don't think Gilead will care about Serena that much as she is just a woman.
