I haven't read the play by Shakespeare the show is based on, but it's fascinating and quite engrossing. The characters all speak verse but it doesn't feel artificial. I guess I would read these history plays after watching the show. It can definitely encourage you to read Shakespare if you are not familiar with the plays before. The show is also quite visually pleasing.
