The Last Kingdom 2015

Such an awesome series. Closure was spot on. Great actors and you actually feel for them.

Really enjoying this. Avid fan of the Cornwell novels and this series does a pretty decent job of televising them.

So don't be an "Arsling" and add it to your watch list :D

This series does a great job in telling it's own story, one advice I would give to anyone who wants to watch it, is to separate it completely from the vikings series's story, and just don't compare them to each other.
One very very commendable thing about this series is that there are so many things happening in every single episode which make the story advance in a fast pace and doesn't let you get bored.
I also need to give props to Alexander Dreymon for his good performance throughout the whole show. Of course he's not the only good actor, but he is still the MC..
9,5/10

The next season can't come soon enough for me, love the writing...

season 4 finally coming to Netflix on Sunday 26th April 2020

Underrated and far better than Vikings, for example. I love the pacing of this show, there is always something happening and time goes so fast. It has also been improving from season to season. I hope season 3 was not the last one, but if it was at least it had a fair and satisfying ending.

loading replies

The first 3 seasons are very good, I especially loved season 3. But after those 3, the show goes downhill big time. Two of the best and most interesting characters are killed off, and their absences are truly felt throughout the remainder of the show. I felt that the final two seasons were lacking any real interesting characters, and by the time season 5 rolls around, it's clear that the show is just repeating the same plot points over and over again to the point where it has become dull and uninspiring.

One of the best Netflix series

Destiny is all! what a cracking show

I love this show, every episode! kinda sad it's over but it had a good ending!!!

Absolutely fantastic show. Incredibly underrated. I love it how consistent are its qualities. I love how every season ends well. Just an easy 10/10. Very little to complain about.

"I am Uhtred (pronounced 'Oooooo-Tred'), son of Uhtred..." I can't stop laughingly mocking the opening of each episode when he gives the synopsis of the prior episode. That said, this is a great show, well written, great story, great acting, and constant movement without many (if any) lulls in the storylines...

Oh, and 'putrid' rhymes with Uhtred....

I am on ep 6 at the moment and one could compare this with Vikings, while Vikings has better characters in general (the main character here is very likeable too), this show has a much better pace. Especially because the pace is fast you dont get bored at any scene and can stay engaged. The show has a lot of unexpected turns and twists, which are unpredictable. I highly recommend this show

edit: after finishing this gem of a show, I have to say I almost was not going to give it a chance, but thank god I did, because this show has such an amazing pace and really well developing and talented actors. A show filled with great twists and turns and unlike in some other shows you actually get to see a lot of events happen during a single episode. Other shows should take an example here

9/10 for Season 1

Go for season 2, BBC!

I tried several times to get into this series but I could never get past the first episode.
This weekend having nothing else whatsoever to watch I finally took the plunge and thank God I did. I am a massive fan of the vikings series and worried that it would not compare, that was a mistake on my part because this series is it’s own story and once I had accepted that (by season 1 ep 4) I loved it in its own merit. I binged all 4 seasons and now it’s over I feel lost! If you like a good solid battlefield drama then this is for you. If you are vikings fan you would probably like it even more so for the references to both Saxons and vikings that you have already come to love and hate.
If you are in any doubt whatsoever please just give it a try. You will not be disappointed. I have only ever awarded 3 TV series a a 10/10 rating; Breaking Bad, House of cards & Vikings. I am happy to say:asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol: The Last Kingdom will now join those elite few! 10/10 :asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol:

And to think I thought this was just a Vikings knock off show and totally disregarded it for a long time!! Shame on me!!! One of my top 3 shows!

loading replies

I may have overrated but some scenes or moments were particularly memorable for me.

Third season was the best one imo, followed by the first or second one.
The last one was "good" but in the very sense that it was the saddest, hearth rending of all.

I was angry at the director and the choices he made, until I realized he was just following History.

"I'm Uhtered of Bebbanburg" x49

Strong character development and a very engaging story have made it rare for viewers to feel a slow pace in the story's progression.
The show also has good cinematography and direction, and it depicts the war scenes well. However, I did notice some weaknesses from some of the actors throughout the series. They were unable to effectively convey the accurate and realistic emotions to the audience...
Overall, it is a series that I recommend to any viewer and fan of this genre.

Must watch series. Fantastic one

Better thank Vikings which become unbearable after season 3. Good story telling and great ending.

This is loosely based on formation of england and mainly deals with the conflicts among danes and saxons.

The story revolves around Uhtred of Bebbanburg(Uhtred Ragnarson), Born to saxons but raised by danes. He is deeply conflicted between peace, loyalty, family, revenge and identity. With a headstrong attitude and propensity jump right in to it with out thinking about the consequences, it will not be easy for Uhtred to survive when neither saxons nor danes takes kindly to his existence.

Pros:
Excellent world building.
Multi-dimensional characters.
Headstrong but lovable MC.
Intricate plots.
Nice story telling.

Cons:
MC changes Female interest too often.
Season 4 and 5 are of inferior quality.
Plot armor of the MC is insane.
MC doesn't age.
MC is a bit of a hypocrite.

Well worth watching, we really enjoyed it.

Overall this show was a great watch and I can't recommend it enough to anyone who is into the setting. Yes, it peaked with season 3, but 4 and 5 were still strong seasons and the finale was actually satisfying.

Delicious historical fiction blended with non-fiction. It is a great gift to watch a show that portrays both sides of my ancestors, neck to neck, sword to axe!

The obvious comparisons with Vikings aside.
No actually, let's just make the comparisons.
Vikings in Ragnar times..a fantastic show. Losing 2 stars per season since then until the latest season.

The Last Kingdom? Yeah, it started for me as an 8* and improves season by season.

As for the characters, Aelswith irritated (bored) me even more than Jon Snow in GoT. But take a bow Eliza Butterworth, your role has grown on me to the extent that right now you are amongst the favourite characters in any show I have ever watched.
Credit to both your acting and to the script.

loading replies

pretty good actually. apart from the 'dramatic' plots, it got very good taste in the whole aesthetics esp in S01.

loading replies

I really enjoyed this show. It's definitely not Vikings, but the fact that it mixes historical with fantasy is nice if you're into historical Drama's. It's a bit slow to start but worth sticking around for the long haul. If you're into Vikings, I definitely recommend giving this a watch.

This show is good but the one thing that annoys me to hell and back is the fact they say lord a thousand times.... lord this lord that..LORD!! If I had a pound for everytime it's said i'd be rich

Is a great TV show, but there are some troubles that annoy us, the script is very rushed that we lost several details that would be interesting to plot, for example, the reason for the betrayal of Wulfhere was very poorly explained, if they explained... And a little more development in some of the secondary characters

One thing I liked was the realism in the battles, they are very visceral and very well produced, but had a problem in the direction of the battle that occurs in the season finale, lacked more excitement, and impact in the deaths of the characters. The cuts from the BBC for the commercial entrance also help a little in this problem.

Apart from those problems that bothered me a bit, it's a great show to follow, I'll wait for Season 2 and I hope these problems are solved or mitigated.

Liked the show. From the start reminded me of Vikings. Not in the sense that it's exactly like Vikings but time period and events have similarities. The story has some twists and turns but feels rushed especially at the end. It feels like some scenes were skipped due to high production costs would be involved as for example in some of the fights. The show was good enough to follow through to the end but left me with a little bit of a bad taste. The middle part was really good and wanted me to keep watching but the end ruined it for me. For the 2nd season it's partially clear what will happen there as some plots were already started but not finished.
