Okay... this was one of my favorite shows on television the first three seasons. But in the words of Margo... WTF HAPPENED?
This season premiere is absolutely atrocious in the worst possible way. The directing is terrible. The cinematography is terrible. The writing is disjointed and worse than terrible. I’m pretty sure the cameras and/or lighting has changed, possibly due to budgetary reasons? Certainly not the same look as previous seasons.
The only thing which hasn’t changed is the acting. Each character is still being well portrayed by each actor but it’s somewhat obvious they are working without direction and you can feel it from scene to scene. This is a massively disappointing outcome for me, because I originally rated this show a 9 but this first season four episode has dropped to about a 6. So unfortunate.
Santa is real. And he's Alice's jail buddy. Love it. LOL
And why does Ember think Margo's a boy? I don't get it.
It's years ago that I watched season three and even after watching two recaps this is still really confusing :o :D
Anyway, it's quite funny how hilariously stupid / messed up it is... :D
That high pitch tone/sound was quite annoying though :o Definitely served it's purpose, I guess.
Sweet Jebus, how I've missed this show! I can't believe I'm only watching this now, months after this season aired. But it was such a joy finding out everything is still as good as I remembered!
It's heartbreaking to see the whole gang split up (and completely oblivious to the fact that they're trapped in lives that are not their own) but, of course, we all know that won't stay like that forever.
Margo's line about Jeff Goldblum was so on point that it almost made me spit out my drink! That has got to be one of the most awesome low key jokes this show has ever given us (and it has given us quite a few low key jokes)! Glad to see that, even though she's trapped in someone else's life, her personality is exactly the same. King bitch for life!
Quentin, on the other hand, seems to be hanging out with the worst kind of company... (Poor Eliot!)
This was a most excellent setup for the whole season, I can't wait to binge watch the fudge out of this thing!
I loved the first 3 seasons, but this episode was kind of boring.
Maybe I need to look a lot closer but I can't tell the difference between real Margot and Fake Margot.
They look exactly alike to me.
Also I'm happy to see Marina, she's one of my favorites.
I quite liked the first episode. I haven't got much of a clue about WTF is happening. I cannot remember what happened end of last season despite the recap
I have a love hate relationship with this show. After the season 3 finale I promised myself I'd never watch it again. I forgot to tell my DVR. So while in bed last night, at midnight, looking for something to watch I found this. Like a cursed penny that you can't get rid of.
It was pretty good. I still want to track down all the actors who played the characters that betrayed the group last season and smite them.

I read the first two books but not the third. I think watching this show may be better if you don't know how things pan out. Normally an episode where people don't have their powers would bother me, and if they didn't know who they were it would bother me even more, but this was done very well, with plenty of traction on all fronts. Plus their chosen identities were fascinating.
I like Marina's makeup. Purple lipstick, flashy eyeshadow, dangling hexagon earrings. All a good look on her.
Fog is trying to redeem himself and is letting Julia be part of magic. That scene with her in his office was touching. I like Dean Fog.
The only thing I wish I knew is the books description of the animals current plaything scenes with Quentin. Maybe I'll read those. In the past, the show has found ways to stay true to the multi-layered lathered-up descriptions in the books.
Loved how the horned God talked to Margot, calling her the "little boy high king."
May have graded a bit high on this one, but I missed the show.
Also: Dear person who went thru the first five eps here and gave them fake synopses: Alice and Quentin confront a dog? Dean Fog gets a new suit? Margot eats a muffin from Josh? I think you can do better. I did like Julia drinks schnapps, tho.
