Aaaah it’s so sad seeing Beth spiral this bad, probably it’s cause she feels lonely but I feel there’s people with good intentions that would want to be there for her and support her, like Benny and Harry! And yes Harry seems like the most precious man on Earth! I can’t stop laughing at how she tried to drag him for working at the supermarket but he was like I’m assistant manager, I have my own office and I’m going to college!
And I know Beth is going through it but I just wanna take a moment to appreciate how badass she is having her money, buying her house off that awful man and redecorating it, going shopping and to dinner and almost living her best life without depending on anyone (minus the addiction part hehe) but that’s goals for me!
This was great! I really loved the strong beginning but the loss against Borgov really hurt, especially given the circumstances (she teased him so nicely at the interview before the tournament and I hate Cleo now; but at least we now know what the intro of this show was about). The time with Benny Watts was really nice and fun. Harry Beltik is such an interesting character and I like his arc. Beth is kinda becoming a modern pop/Hollywood star now and the acting felt so different, which I really like. Jolene's return was super unexpected, let's see where this'll go.
I feel so frustrated about Beths dinking problem, I just want to see her do great. But, really good episode. Excited about the ending, hope things get better for her.
From seeing her at her sober peak beating 3 very skilled players at speed chess to having 'just one' drink and letting it all spiral. A shame to see.
Um did she sleep with Cleo though? Can't say we wouldn't all have been tempted in her shoes tbh.
Nice to see her making that house her own but hoping she can climb out this hole.
The episode starts on a more optimistic mode, with Beth travelling with Benny to New York, where they really spent most of the time honing up her chess skills, though Beth is at first a bit shocked that Benny's apartment is rather a shabby basement. She beats him in speed chess a couple of times, though. Benny also keeps her away from alcohol. Things seem to be promising but a day before her rematch against Borgov, she breaks her fast from alcohol and is hangover the next day so that she comes late to the game and cannot concentrate so she is beaten by Borgov again. At home, she has new problems as her adoptive father wants to get the house back, fortunately Beth has enough money to buy it from him. She starts redecorating the house, but soon falls into a terrible drinking binge, it is really sad to see her in this state, destroying her life and her talent. She rejects help from Harry, who genuinely cares about her and checks on her a couple of times. The ending of the episode is hopeful, as Jolene found her and maybe she would help her out of the addiction? though taking into account that it was Jolene that gave her "advice" about the pills at the orphanage, things can possibly get worse? I guess Beth would become a drunk and waste her chess skills completely.
Enjoyed this one of the series of the year for me !
that cliché about modeling wasn't really necessary :rolling_eyes::rolling_eyes::rolling_eyes: who wrote those lines? an idiot?

Best episode until now... And finally Jolene is back! I didn't expected, but I'm happy for that.
