[7.3/10 on a post-classic Simpsons scale] Silly me! Given the title, I thought this was going to be an Uncut Gems parody, and instead it was an Oceans 8 parody! Oh well, the latter works much better as a premise for a Simpsons episode than the Safdies’ movie likely would.
This falls into the category of post-classic Simpsons episodes where I like the idea behind it better than the execution. Fleshing out Sarah Wiggum, giving her a personality and backstory, and finding a nice rapport between her and Marge is frankly inspired. The Simpsons has previously leaned into how Homer and Chief Wiggum are pretty alike, in a way that brought out some genuine friendship between them. Shifting the perspective there and showing how that would make Marge and Sarah understand one another in a unique way is a really canny choice by the show.
Having them discover that friendship amid a heist that just happens to involve the “GEN Gala” something Marge was upset at having to miss watching and dishing on, is a good bit as well. And I like the idea of a B-story where Homer and Clancy are reminded that they should prioritize their wives over their middle aged dad interests, and learn to appreciate their partners.
I just didn’t laugh very much at this one. I got a kick out of how, pre-booze, Sarah was basically a blank slate who gave one word answers. But the little chyrons noting different parts of the plan, the Met Gala humor, and especially the tepid gags about Homer going to see Bob Seger (not Bob Saget), were all very mild. There were no embarrassing gags like in some late season episodes, but also not much that really brought the big yuks either.
I did like Megan Mullaly as Sarah WIggum quite a bit, and I hope she gets to make a few return appearances on the show. (Bob’s Burgers
not so bad i did 1-2x laugh :)

This episode feels like an extremely late Ocean's 8 spoof. They even put a Rihanna in. Not sure if I should laugh or frown.
