Why did the defense team collect the blow poke themselves rather than calling the police, who could handle it properly, chain of custody, etc.? I get taking photos beforehand; that's logical. But to actually put it in a container using pliers and some other sort of implement... seems risky? Is this standard procedure? I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
