7.2/10. Pretty enjoyable episode. Dr. Venture stranded on the ocean floor, recording his journal made me laugh for the somewhat pathetic qualities of the good doctor trumping himself up like a would-be Jacques Cousteau. The biggest laughs came from the wannabe pirates. It's a great premise to have a troop of Scooby Doo-esque "ghost pirates" not only freak out while encountering a real ghost, but be somewhat out of sorts by a group of people putting up any sort of resistance. Plus the Pirate Captain's tet-a-tet with Dean had a lot of laughs from the characteristically oblivious Dean being impervious to interrogation in his own, blithely moronic sort of way, coupled with the captain's frustration at that.
The rest of the episode had its charms as well. Brock not having his hands and having to improvise led to his ridiculous scene involving the pirates trying to find the "key," prompting Brock to unleash a frightening ass-based attack. Plus him talking the naive Hank through disabling the guards was oddly adorable. (Crazy fan theory alert -- Brock and Hank seem to have something of a bond. Any chance Hank is some kind of clone of Brock or a weird mix of Brock and Doc Venture or something?). And the conversation with the ghost of Major Tom (who was giving me real Heavy Metal flashbacks) with his wife and Action Man had the trademark venture mix of the fantastical and the prosaic to bring the comedy. (I'm not sure I completely got all the Bowie references there, but I got the gist of them.) Overall, the episode was a bit disjointed, but still quite enjoyable.
