[7.6/10] I like this one quite a bit! This show’s had a tough time coming up with villains who are a worthy match for Zeta, but Krick fits the bill. He’s a cyborg, so between his eye attachment and his robotic limbs, he can both see through Zeta’s disguises and stand up to him physically. But as a bounty hunter, he’s also been studying Zeta, and so knows how to use Zeta’s altruism against him. That makes him a unique threat to our favorite bot, and one of his most interesting challenges yet.
I also like the use of Agent Lee here. She’s already been someone who’s had her doubts about whether Zeta is truly their enemy, but this reinforces it in a more personal way. She not only gets a little more of both agency and the spotlight here, being both Krick’s hostage and helping Zeta evade his grasp, but she gets saved by Zeta. That gives her a personal experience with who he really is, in addition to her seeing how Krick uses the threat of her coming to harm in order to manipulate Zeta. It’s a good character journey for her, culminating in her turning a blind eye to Zee and Ro’s escape with a flimsy excuse.
What’s more, an old abandoned candy factory is just a cool backdrop for a cat and mouse game. The presence of cuddle koala bear robots is a little convenient, but I like how this scenario requires Zeta to be a little extra clever, having to hide and use distractions more precisely than usual because Krick knows his usual tricks. The switcheroo with Lee is a good twist, and I appreciate their confrontation.
This one also gives Ro something to do, disabling Agent West with her wits on more than one occasion. Plus there’s a strange sort of irony to Krick getting defeated by taffy given his choice of hideout.
Overall, this has one of the show’s best antagonists yet, crafts a good journey for Agent Lee, and forces Zeta to be as clever as we’ve ever seen him. Good stuff.
