Whoever originally first came up with the whole "You can't be employed in a lab analysing stuff for a case where a family member has been murdered" should be fired and never work in the industry again.
As should anyone copying that stupid plotline for the last decade (or probably even longer).
Its just plain stupid. Not least, since she got hired for some drug testing program which has nothing to do with the murder case. They could just exclude her from the murder investigation and everything would be fine.
There is also no internal logic to it. What do they do when a police officers family gets murdered? Does the officer have to transfer somewhere else? Can't he work for any law enforcement agency for the duration of the investigation? Bear in mind, that murder cases can stay open for years!
It had been nice if the writers had used their brains writing that part of the story.
