First seasons were better. Cast is still really bad. But still if you have nothing to watch, you are spending your 50 mins very nicely
terrible bunch of actors, cheap series
Political soap opera that takes place in a (non existing) Middle East Muslim country. It is an intriguing premise as it tries to show how the different facets oppressed Arabic people take when they are forced to the wall and an intriguing "damned if you do and damned if you don't" approach to some of the political issues. Some of the supporting characters had little to do (other than to get killed) but solid stuff.
I honestly don't understand why people say it's a 'terrible cast'. Is it because the actors aren't populair? I find Jamal and Laila for example quite intimidating.
Sad to see this series decline. First season was good but after Jamal's death all went down very quickly. Season 3 should have been the last, finishing with Bassam as a tyrant and taken down, just like his brother. Instead they keep making it worse and worse. Probably not gonna watch the next season. The last scene of season 3 should have been around episode 8 with Barry's picture side by side with his tyrant brother and father, being just another tyrant Al-fayeed in the wall..
The idea that this would get cancelled after 3 seasons I believe speaks to the feeble conceptions we've adopted about what counts and where in a television series. While the casting left something to be desired, the vast scope and care the series gave to a whole host of issues you don't ever see in media anymore. It's the backdrop that lends itself to what shows like The Wire showed us what television could be. The biggest problem with the show isn't so much lackluster writing or stiff performances, it's that it has to pack so much quality subject matter and potentially interesting characters into a "regular" TV format. The plot lines move on quickly. For a show that may not see more seasons, I appreciate that they were able to get in as much as they did, but can still feel the sense of longing for what more could be.
The Americans nails pacing and silence, you feel the deaths and they can haunt you like they haunt the characters. While Tyrant pulled out it's "wtf no!" moments related to important deaths, the show stopping harrowing moments cannot be so pronounced because there's so much more to explore. That doesn't mean they didn't hit, but it means we didn't get to be as intimately attached as we may have been to even minor players in then series given more time. I understand why, if you're just a fan of a few shows or binge what's recently popular, this might not exactly click with you. But as someone who devours TV, it was nice to get lost in a foreign, yet familiar, world where the characters aren't offering canned conversation and things feel marginally resolved after each episode.
This is such a contribution. It's a thoughtful show. It's deliberate in its goals and agenda. The mess of whatever happens in the background of production is what would provoke you to dislike it, not the story itself. And at the end of the day, isn't that what tends to count the most? Isn't that what separates American Horror Story seasons and why, even when I heard and lamented Nashville was getting cancelled I empathized with the idea there wasn't much left to tell about that world? This should be a 10 season show where more focus can be given to who's left and who you can discover you're rooting for. This is culturally relevant unwinding psychology. It's brilliant in enough ways for me to kick and scream here for someone to recognize and support the same things I do.
Fairly genuine storyline but rubbish acting and really bad studio setup. Stick with it, season 3 is better.
Anyone know why there's a listing for a S2E13 when E12 was the season finale?
One of my favorite tv shows so original story. I hope FX wants to go for a third season
Such a great series so far. I thought season 1 was great, but they upped it in season 2. It's very original, and the cast is all great.
Série très originale, à voir absolument !
Really enjoying this show so far.
The ambiance production and scenery are without a doubt masterpieces but the plot is confusing, the casting is bad, bad acting and writing. You can't buy your way into the TV hall of fame.
'Tyrant' has an interesting storyline, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. It's so poorly written but have to admit it somewhat improved in the last 3 episodes. Adam Rayner was so wooden throughout although this does work to his advantage in the final episodes considering what he's planning. It is Ashraf Barhom and Moran Atias who plays 'Jamal' and 'Leila' respectively who steals the show with terrific performances.
With such poor ratings and very expensive to produce the show, I wonder if there's going to be a Season 2. But if it did come back, I hope they hire a better writing team this time. It has potential to be a good show if they can get it right.
FX has been having some really great shows lately :)
FX has had it's fair share of great Dramas recently but I won't count Tyrant to those.
Since we follow the brother of a Dictator and it's set in the Middle East it obviously wants to focus on the politics... but common, how was that going to work anyways? The protagonist returning from America stands on the moral high ground and wants to change the ways of his brother - which he has plenty of chances to do. You know, that social media thing? You don't want to clean that plaza violently... Always treading the same ground is also not very interesting nor was it done in any realistic manner. As the series progresses and brings US politics into the mix it only gets worse. Much of the screen time was also wasted with really pointless and never followed up on story lines for the family (and the sister for example was just added for god damn nothing). The acting was lackluster as well and Justin Kirk was a total miscast (working with ever so flat characters to be fair).
The show would have been much more enjoyable if the Dictator was consistently insane and not craving for his brother's 'love' and opinions (which he afterwards ignores anyways).
Maybe it improves once S2 comes around but for now I would not recommend the show.
Umm...let's see...
Father was an Arab, mother's an American, main protagonist a mix married to an american woman. If his brother, the current President, dies a sudden and unexpected death without an heir, the next in line to the throne of Al-Fayeed Country will be the gay guy.
I LUV IT! It would be fun to have a gay-21stCentury-arab-american-probablyChristian-boy be the next tyrant of an islamic country!
The story's ridiculous, but solid. I'll keep watching!XD
Good, pretty good! It may sound strange, but it's a damn good show! ^ ^
Bellissimo il film.
Really cool! May be the next Homeland? But some settings do remind me the Ray Donovan.
Looks interesting... FX tears it up!•!•!
