Notes

Drew McWeeny: "I think T.E. Lawrence is one of the most interesting, complicated, frustrating, and recognisably flawed characters I've ever seen in a film. But I don't like him."

Drew: "Storytelling cannot start at 'happily ever after.' And art is not just hanging out with your friends on the couch. Art's where we confront the things that terrify or upset or traumatise us. It's not just okay to tell stories about the characters we don't like. It's crucial."

  • The editing, omg. Cutting from one film to another as if every character is in dialogue with each other is masterful

Drew: "In the end, empathy trumps sympathy. One is earned, and the other can be manipulated."

Review
These are important points. Unfortunately, even with a slightly longer runtime, "But I Don't Like Him" is only an exhibition for some of Drew's favourite movies. Again, I agree with what he says, but it feels like a waste of time.
