Season 1 is ok. Season 2 is terrible
good show. really hope there will be a season 2:thumbsup::eyes::fire::wink::ok_hand::smile:
Don’t bother. Season 2 is such a disappointment and the ending is utter crap.
i don't know what happened
season 1 was awesome, season 2 it's just so bad I'm starting to lose my hope for it to get better
Boring and it was abit slow for my liking. 4/10
After reading the comments and checking the scores, I stubbornly decided to give this a watch anyway. Season 1 is ok, season 2 slowly becomes nearly unwatchable. I’d stay away from this, but who am I to tell you not to watch it, when I didn’t listen to others’ warnings either.
All in all a waste of time with very few redeeming qualities, do not recommend.
Like most people, I too get attracted to shows and movies by one or more of the actors. For me, in this case, it was Daisy Edgar-Jones.
Having said that, I'm 7 episodes into Season 1 of this show and every episode so far seem to have the same writing pattern. The character development is bad. I don't feel attached to any of these characters (including the one played by Daisy Edgar-Jones). Note that I'm watching this with French subtitles. The language hasn't been a barrier.
Also this show is more Drama than Science Fiction. The presence of a Boston Robotics Bambi alien overload by itself doesn't make a story belong in the Science Fiction genre. It might have been in 1898, when H. G. Wells wrote the source material. But no longer true today.
By episode 7 (out of an 8 episode first season), the viewers have no idea who the aliens are, let alone what their motives might be. I understand that this is the whole premise of the show. The writers are doing a piss poor job of revealing bits and pieces to make sure that the viewers keep coming back.
This show seems to have started with a half-baked idea, hoping to make stuff up as funding became available from one season to another. It's either that, or they planned it as a 3 Season show and paced the writing accordingly (the show's data here says it's 'Ended' as opposed to 'Cancelled', hence my suspicion).
Show started out great, up until season 3. Then turned into another quantum nightmare.
I don't understand the story anymore. too complicated
Ok, initially I really didn't know why this show got me so bad, maybe it was the sense of anger at the aliens, and the desire to see them all dead. But I knew things weren't that simple. Indeed, the strength of this show is precisely the ability to engage the viewer with negative feelings. I've also seen the second season, but I don't think I'll want to see the third. It would cost too much emotionally.
This show is not very dissimilar to others in which aliens colonize the Earth, and it is a good retelling of the work of H.G. Wells. The aspect that I personally find intriguing, and that pushes me to watch the second season as well, is to understand if the aliens, evidently human, are a kind of "fork" of terrestrial humanity which, once discovered the way to curve spacetime and travel instantly into the universe, they colonized another planet but experienced extinction for some reason. In short, environmental and social implications. We'll see if that's really the case, and how it develops in the second season.
Season 2 is utter rubbish so far. Plot holes everywhere. Ready to give up after episode 3 which was absolute garbage. Oh, I'll experiment with a virus that will shut down insulin production, but only at the last minute will I decide to go and get some insulin AFTER I've started the experiment. Utter nonsense. Emily is the most annoying character ever as well.
Why is this called War Of The Worlds? 3 episodes in and I haven’t seen 1 key element from the book. Not saying it’s a terrible show, but it feels more like The Walking Dead than War Of The Worlds.
You know how the joke is that Indy is the most pointless character in Raiders of the Lost Ark because everything that happens would have happened even if he wasn't there? Well, that's this series. Everything that happens would have happened without the characters so they are all pointless. As are the 8 hours I wasted watching this pile of rubbish!
Watching this, I started making comparisons to the late 1980s version of "War of the Worlds"
The first season of that show had aliens that looked like aliens, and some that would merge with humans, but still have the aliens inside.
Season 1 of this show had the aliens LOOK like aliens. (I even said that it parallels human culture - sending robotic machines to explore an alien planet. Except, we havent been added methods of killing the native species with our drones).
Season 2 of the 1980's show - the military leader is killed (hey, it's been 30 years - spoilers do mean a thing) and now the Aliens invaders are human!!!! And the world is very different. You dont know who to trust, or not trust, and so everyone is a suspect.
Season 2 of this show is the same way - now, humans with a tattoo are the aliens, and the mechs are there to help/ scout ahead.
Since there wasnt a 3rd season of the 1980's series, the next season is on it's own.
Too loose an adaptation of the original story and should not have been called War of the Worlds. However, the storyline was very good and mostly engaging but a little slow at times. I sometimes lost track of which "world" we were in during Season 3 and also thought there was too little engagement with the rest of the world with the focus strongly on the story characters.
Regardless, I enjoyed the series and thought it was quite well done.
I love this series its been incredibly well made good story great cast and great ending you did the story well
what a show I really enjoyed this loved the whole story had me gripped from start to finish it was truly great entertainment the cast is great the actor that played Sacha infuriated me and made me so angry at points but I can only give credit to the actor for a very good performance I found myself shouting at the TV multiple times for somebody to end the evil dude Rein. other great performances from everybody involved I could easily say this is up there top of my favourite series at the moment.
I just finished watching season 2. This is a really great series. Season 1 was very impressive to begin with. But season 2 really knocked it out of the park. This is one of the tightest time-travel series I've ever watched.
As season 2 ended, the story was all nice and neatly tied up - or so I thought. Apparently, season 3 is already in the works. I can not wait to see what the writers come up with.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
As a French person, I am so ashamed of Léa Drucker acting level... :persevere: How could she won a César and be so mediocre here
[Movistar+] The series contradicts itself as an adaptation of "War of the Worlds", trying to find a new path that leads nowhere. S2 is more reflected in "Invasion of the body snatchers" (1978) and ends up copying "Dark" (Netflix, 2017-2020). In the end it is a mixture of references from which it cannot extract the really interesting material.
Only a few episodes in and, though the original language says English, a good portion of this is in French, be prepared for that.
Just finished season one, loving it... can't wait for season 2.
The situation with the Dr in France is questionable (including her stupidity).. all the army guys are wearing camo, but she's wearing a bright red coat - I'm I the only one bothered about this? Also, all electronics are dead, but her laptop still works..hmm.
Still, it's engaging and well done, not like that tacky WOTW with "The" at the front that also came out in 2019.
Update: Season 2 was great. Season 3 sucked - gave up after episode 2 it was just too mind numbing and completely tedious.
Great adaptation, I was hooked after the first episode. Mostly in English, make sure you have subtitles. Enjoyable
Not a bad show. Not a good show either. If you have 8 hours to waste (which we all do in our current world ending state), watch it. If you rather paint your wall & watch it dry...well you’ll get the same level of excitement. Maybe this should’ve been done as a 2 hour movie. And that ending...dumb & pointless, explained nothing. But then again there are far worst show out there so that’s a big positive for this show.
It does have a Walking Dead feel to it. Bleak and isolating. A lot of the main characters are a bit hard to warm up to and the European aversion to guns is comical. I did enjoy the struggle to explain and decipher the attack. And the use of the Google robots was fun. However the show needed a way better season resolution. I don't appreciate watching 8 episodes and being left so much in the dark at the end. Unless you're fairly desperate for some sci fi, I would pass on this one. P.S. The other version wasn't even watchable.
Really enjoyed it, it was far superior to the dreadful BBC version although it was totally different to the original book which sometimes is a good thing, I hope there is a second series and I don't have to add it to my ever growing list of shows that don't have a conclusion.
I usually don't like to engage with programs using subtitles, but I found them to be barely noticeable with this show. As far as entertainment goes, I was pleasantly surprised. I look forward to season two and the continuation of this story line.
its terrible avoid the other new one is also bad but not at bad as this
A solid 8 from me, don’t watch this hoping to see something even close to the original....
This is a modern day telling of the story and very close to what it would be like, forget your big block buster movie stories and over the top effects.
This is a much more simple story, but told from a very very realistic perspective!!!!!
Oh!!! And whatever you do, don’t watch the bbc version, it’s terrible..... they played around with the story, but in a horrible way......

Watched up to E08 and I’m really enjoying it.
Do not watch and expect it to be as the original The War of the Worlds, it’s very different, but at the same time sharing similar elements.
It’s perhaps why it’s missing ‘the’ from the beginning of the title and called ‘War of the Worlds’.
Strangely, there’s another show running at the same time called The War of the Worlds; this is the one to watch if you’re expecting a show reflecting the original.
However, I’m loving this show. It’s a collaboration between the UK & France, and therefore expect subtitles in places.
It’s a much simpler show, although that’s probably the incorrect terminology, as it has a great plot which you don’t know where it’s going.
After watching 8 episodes, I’m getting the impression it’s nothing to do with the original we all know and love, but something very different.
It has an excellent cast and told well. It’s very down to earth without lots of CGI etc. Probably a more realistic version if something like this did happen.
I’ve absolutely no complaints about this and I’m sad to see it’s so poorly rated; which I suspect is because people are expecting the original War of the Worlds.
Watch this with no preconceived ideas, and you should enjoy it.
A solid rating of 8 from me, it’s twisting off in a direction I never would have of suspected.
If you want something closer to the original, watch the other show; which I’ve only seen clips of. But, it is definitely based on the original.
I’ve marked this in my list as British, when technically it’s not. It’s a collaboration of UK & France, made for American TV. But, I don’t have list for that lol.
Enjoy!
