did a 5 year old write this episode? seriously, this was a really cringe episode and it didn't help that Captain Karen showed up
Loved this episode! Had the same energy as Thor Ragnarok which is easily the funniest Marvel movie
Another garbage episode. Series has been on a massive downfall since the amazing Dr. Strange episode.
This episode gave us no development or purpose other than a 5 second piece at the very end. At this rate, What If may end up sitting at the bottom of my MCU rankngs, though Captain Marvel, Incredible Hulk and Thor 2 are a hot mess.
However - IF this show is Marvel testing the waters for a potential Howard the Duck animated (or CGI show), I'm 100% in.
Should’ve been called "What If Thor was a Frat Boy"
That was a bizarre episode, wasn’t it? I mean certainly something else after all the doom and gloom of the last couple of ones, but truly unexpected.
Again, the scenario of Thor and Loki not growing up as brothers is interesting, though it probably would have made up for more of an intriguing Loki-starring episode but whatever.
I adore Thor. I adore it when Chris Hemsworth is allowed to show his comedic side. I bet Chris and Tom had a blast recording this episode, because it definitely translates on screen (the voice acting does wonders for this episode, since the animation is all sorts of terrible.)
I liked all the weird cameos and background moments, I liked giving some focus on Frigga and I loved Thor and Loki being best of bros and it was such a nice change to see Loki happy and relaxed for once (see how Odin ruined his life).
What I found however a bit unsettling was the portrayal of women this episode. Darcy was annoying, but she always is, but the others, Maria, Jane and Carol, came off as dumbed down, buzzkills and constantly nagging while the men get to have all the fun. Such an outdated stereotype.
And while Natalie Portman did a solid job, Jane seemed like a completely new and random character.
The dialogue was pretty juvenile and felt like it was directly taken out of a raunchy 90s comedy film à la American Pie or as if a teenager has written the script.
Still, I cannot deny that the episode was mostly entertaining, even without any kind of substance.
This isn't just the worst episode on a show already filled with a ton of bad episodes, this is also one of the worst things done for the MCU. Some of the fan's least favorite movies in the Marvel Universe look and feel like award-winning masterpieces when compared to this incredibly awful episode. It baffles me that this episode went through so many people and no one during the entire production considered how atrocious this was.
This episode, while delivering on some neat fanservice, is far too childish (much like Party Thor). Most of the jokes are unfunny, the story is something out of a Saturday morning cartoon, and the stiffness of the animation is boldly on display.
"What if Thor had reality-bending dumbness powers?"
A failed attempt at humor and a complete waste of time. Special shout-out to this episode's Darcy for being the most painfully unfunny character in the history of the MCU.
A whole saga and it turns out, the key to intergalactic peace is a rager. Just do it on some deserted planet and y'all are good to go lololol
This episode was pretty funny as a whole, but dang, Darcy hit different. :joy:
Also loved Jotunn!Loki's appearance! (Guess this is where Loki/Sylvie's big change start to come into play, where this Loki will finally not have a miserable end.
When Thor made his "smile a little" comment, I went OOF and got excited because we know just how much Carol loves that.
Jane's character was very... OOC though? It felt like she was dumbed down for the story. Pretty sure they could have approached this some other way.
All in all a pretty fun episode. One of the better ones after the (imo) not so good past 2 episodes.
I was also spoiled by early leaks of the season's episode plots on Reddit, so I was surprised that we got an early glimpse of Ultron/Vision here.
Yet another both fundamentally flawed and lame episode. Not only was this cringe makingly dreadful, much like the previous episode the concept was seriously flawed.
If Thor was an idiot he would never be worthy of Mjolnir.
Not sure I'll bother with the rest of this series.
It started so well...
this episode was absolutely awful. I lost interest as soon as Thor landed. I just didn't care at all about any of the characters.
[7.1/10] After some grim episodes and ones that take the tangles of the MCU very seriously, it’s nice to have one of these that’s just a romp. There’s not much conflict in this episode. We do have Thor trying to evade his mom’s judgment and Captain Marvel trying to kick him off of Earth. But for the most part, this is just one big lark. The title really ought to be, “What If Thor threw a big party on Earth?”
The answer: it’d be pretty fun! It’s a hoot to see basically every character from the cosmic corner of the MCU slumming it in Midgard at the invitation of the god of thunder. There’s not much to it, but the cameos are entertaining and the humor is light.
As an aside, apparently if Thor didn’t grow up with Loki, he would basically be...well...Archer from Archer. Untempered Thor and Frost Giant Loki’s little bromance is wholesome and amusing as all hell. And Thor himself, while a little irksome, is enough of a big dumb lugnut to entertain.
The fights he has with Captain Marvel bring the action quota up nicely, even as they’re consciously played more for Looney Tunes-esque mayhem than genuine peril. And I like the conceit of Thor trying to clean up...all of Earth so that his mom doesn’t realize he’s been partying.
As with a number of these episodes, the character designs are dodgy and the voice acting from non-voice actors isn’t always great. But on the whole, this one is enough of an entertaining flight of fancy that I’m more than willing to forgive its faults.
Just when this episode finally gets interesting it ends….. sigh
What the Hella was that
Oh...my....God
That was a load of rubbish and way to silly for me.
I wanted to see Thor go up against Captain Marvel
For the full 30 mins as in episode name could have been.
Who's stronger are
Thor vs Captain Marvel
Would have made a fantastic episode as it's been the most argued thing online
"Who would win in a straight up fight"
And seeing Brie-Larson get her no ass handed to her for 30mins Would have been the first 10/10 episode. But no it went the kindergarten way and was just purr stillness and a god damn waste of my time.
I didn't think any episode could be worse than ep1
But here we have it ladies and gentlemen.
2/10
Made ep1
Look like a Masterpiece
Complete waste of time. The joke was basically played out moments after it started, but then it went on for another 30 minutes.
Probably alright for kids, I guess. Although I'm pretty sure even when I was a kid, I would've thought this was a dumb episode.
Chris Hemsworth did an admirable job, seeing as he was front-and-center for this episode. Not every actor can easily transition into voice acting - as proven by some of the other voices on this show. I wasn't even sure that was Natalie Portman until the credits.
The funniest one which is unexpected when the others were so serious.
A silly story, but Hemsworth's voice work was extremely fun; he was really able to let loose here.
Darcy made the whole show.
Wowee...
Didn't realise I needed this... But it made me laugh out loud...
The Watcher: "Thor and Loki, a brotherhood so strong and pivotal, it would change the fate of a universe."
The Watcher: "Thor grew into a very different prince."
Thor: "You know, we lost Fandral for three days. Found him in a barn, curled up next to a baby goat. It was classic. Isn't that right, Fandral?"
Fandral: "I named him Gary!"
Thor: "Yeah, you did!"
Jane: "You killed a planet."
Maria: "Maria Hill, Acting Director of S.H.I.E.L.D."
Captain Marvel: "Lure him to Siberia and then go kaboom on his ass."
Coulson: "What about Captain Marvel?"
Maria: "She'll be fine."
Captain Marvel: "Start in the corners, clean your way outward."
Thor: "Corners, corners. But it's a sphere."
This was the cutest episode by far. This version of Thor is such a goofball just like Taika's Thor and I love it. Just a fun episode.
7/10
Huge hole plot: this Thor can't wield the Mjolnir cuz he isn't worthy anymore. Meanwhile, Captain Marvel could be, at least, more worthy to lift it.
The premise of this episode makes absolutely no sense. Like it insinuates that thor was more responsible because he had a brother but the whole point of the first thor movie is that he's irresponsible so nothing about the concept of this episode even tracks.
I could forgive it if it was funny but it really really wasn't
Not surprised this one is not that well-received by many, but to me it was one of the most entertaining episodes so far! They don't all have to be dark and broody alternative universes. This was a good excuse to see more of egocentric Thor as he kind of was in the beginning of the first movie, but then oh so much worse.
The "party pooper" was well chosen and I knew at that moment that the reviews would go negative from a lot of people. I was not wrong. Sad, really.
What if Thor was a frat boy ? OK, that does not require a full 30 minutes episodes. Could have been done in 5. Supposed to be funny, but it gets old very fast.
Also no way Thor can hold his own so much against Captain Marvel.
Final seconds hints that the show is building to something more than independent episodes though.
You guys are too critical. This is a Marvel COMIC series. Not a Marvel cinematic Marvel Movie. I find this one of the best episodes in this series. You guys expect too much. Just enjoy what was given to you. Do you know how much time it takes to make this?? Have some respect.
This episode was funny and a totally different outlook on what we usually get. I ENJOYED it and so should you.
The comedy in this one was really cringe and badly written. I think the writers saw the success of Thor: Ragnarock and thought "people like funny Thor!" but didn't understand what actually made Ragnarock funny. At least the ending seems to be leading into something interesting.
honestly strange that taika waititi didn't direct this episode, it is very ragnarok-esque and i love it haha
It’s not a spectacular series, someone figured out a way to squeeze more blood from the turnip.
Really enjoyed this one. Both fun and funny, it was great seeing characters have fun while expanding on the AU aspect of the scenario in a lighthearted way.
Pure stupidity, generally fun. The beauty of an animated anthology series is that it doesn't always need to be all about saving the world every single time.
Thor being a frat guy is pretty much the one joke in the entire episode, so it's a good thing that joke is mostly pretty broad and lends itself to a bunch of really funny ideas and moments. The best stuff here is in the sight gags and one off jokes - Thor "fixing" the leaning tower of Piza, Howard the Duck marrying Darcy, everything with Surtur, it's all very funny and showcases that when the MCU wants to actually be funny as opposed to quippy it can actually do it and do it well.
Outside of that though, this is mostly a nothing episode. It's a shame too cause the idea of Thor becoming more of a reckless rule breaker without Loki there to be with him is a great one, it just doesn't do anything with the idea. Even Loki being a Frost Giant this time around felt a bit wasted, there as mostly a one note punchline to a joke you've seen a thousand times. That fight between Captain Marvel and Thor is pretty stellar though - always like seeing two extremely powerful characters just go at it. And of course, the ending, which seems to be teasing a more interconnected story going forward which has been hinted at even if I'm still iffy on it.
what a bad episode, i don't like it
Not the smartest thing ever written, yes, but not for dialogue and premise, because it's pretty much on Marvel standards of "funny". But I di like that they are having fun with it, honestly. Just a bucnh of kids pretending to be adults would be too insecure to have fun with something like this (if they are already on the Marvel wagon). Maybe it's just that this reveals them that they are pretty much hooked onto a product that is really made for kids or kid-adults. Honestly, this is not, humor-wise, different from the 90% of Marvel products.
What a fucking waste of time!
Honestly couldn't finish this one. The premise wasn't interesting enough for me.
Shit shit shit shit and shit
What was that? It's one thing to remove Loki as a brother - but why should Loki, prince of Jotunheim, be friends with Thor? Not to mention all the other characters that popped up, including Thanos. And let's not mention Jane who's buddy-buddy with SHIELD? Darcy was a blast, though.
So far, What if really has been quite a disappointment. Why not pull some realistic what if-scenarios instead of zombie or endless Wakanda related ones? There are enough of those after all: why not call Tony in TWS? Why not tell Tony about Barnes? Why coddle Wanda who released the Hulk on a city and played around in the others' minds? Etc.
A nice calm and fun episode, nothing amazing just kinda cool to watch. Also I watched it in 4K and it looked incredible
Boy you see all those actors in the credits and you think how could this go wrong? And it didn't, it just never went right either. The more recent episodes are feeling more like actual cartoons verses the deep thought provoking episodes we got, well, really only once or maybe twice. This episode was "Cute", but as a whole, I think this series had amazing potential but isn't actually meeting expectations by going for the laughs rather then telling these stories in a more compelling way.

The only interesting part in this episode was the cliffhanger.
