5x04 Horses in Heaven

I’ve said it before but will say it again, Beth vs Jamie is way too overdone. Neither character has had much growth and they’re written the exact same season after season: Beth as insufferable and Jamie as cowardly and weak. It’s just getting old. However, I did think this was one of the better episodes of Yellowstone I’ve seen in a while. If they’re going to insist on putting Beth vs Jamie front and center at least they made it somewhat entertaining with Jamie losing his cool like he did. We know he has the capacity to just snap and do some crazy things, so playing into that was a little fun. Contrary to others I actually do like the scenes of John as governor, he’s a bit ridiculously ignorant and stubborn but that’s typical for the show and in line with his character. And I think you can start to see signs of him embracing the role a bit more, I think he might grow to kind of like it. And the scene with John and Monica was really really great. So overall I continue to have my issues but this was a better episode in entertainment value for me.
