While I do think this season is good, i9t didn't come close to reaching the highs of season 1, 4 1/2 hours of content and I don't feel like anything really happened until the last scene...
just give edvin his emmy already
Loved this but we deserved more scenes of Wille & Simon being happy together. The way it feels like we got more sweet and romantic moments between Sara & August than between them will be forever haunting me if we don't get a 3rd season and see Wilmon thrieve now that they're officially together... renewal now!!
I feel like I spent a lot of time critiquing this season but honestly, it wasn't bad. I just don't feel like it lived up to its potential. I think this season's major flaw was 1. its lack of bite when it came to realistically exploring the consequences of season 1, and 2. underserving its side characters
On the first note, I want to be clear that I didn't want the season to be packed wall to wall with homophobia but it did feel like there weren't enough true consequences on Simon's life as a result of the video. Rather than Simon facing institutional homophobia for being so publically outed or interpersonal homophobia from his peers the story rather centres on the personal turmoil in Willie and Simon's relationship. And don't get me wrong the first 3 episodes handle his reluctance to date someone in the closet really well. But I feel that given his intense determination to go to the police when he finds out August leaked the video I wish we could have gotten to see just how much this video impacted his life more throughout the season.
Onto my second problem, Season 2 had a significant lack of robust plots outside of Wille and Simon's relationship in contrast to Season 1. With the notable exception of August and Sara's relationship which I did enjoy this season really didn't invest time in crafting conflict outside of the main romance. I think the person who suffered the most from this was Felice. While she was certainly present in this season there was no denying she played a much more diminished role here than last season. This became increasingly frustrating as the season rolled on and it became clear Felice had fully been shunted into the role of the best friend. So disappointing given how interesting and dynamic Felice's character was last season.
Even outside of Felice, I wish the story would have invested some time in sitting with side characters like Victor, Nils and Alexander. All of them were characters who were given some play in the season but whose roles could have been punched up to add a little more spice to the overall season because as much as I enjoyed the main romantic plot there are only so many scenes of Wilhelm and Simon broodily sulking at the state of their love life I can take before it gets a little boring. I was especially disappointed that Victor's subplot as a tyrannical Prefect was never taken anywhere after episode 3 because that felt like it was being set up to cause a lot more problems than it did.
Overall again I did really like this season. The angst of Willie and Simon's broken relationship. The cuteness and heartbreak of Simon and Marcus. August trying to be a better person for Sara only to regress back into the worst version of himself. All of it was really compelling TV. But I don't think this season quite lived up to its potential.
Totally loved it but with compared to season 1 it didn’t quite meet my expectations. Season 1 was all about falling in love in the most natural way (they told the story in the most truthful way which nowadays none of the shows/films do), so I was expecting the same but didn’t get that really. Nothing much happened with the main plot, so it was a slow season. But we got to dive in to depths of side characters and see them in grey not just black and white, as the humans they should be. I was pretty impressed by the very changing feelings of Sara and August (not just the stuff between them but mainly about how they see the world around them. August is all apologetic and all but once he finds out the what crowns plans for him are he immediately turns around and feels himself more powerful than will, he even sold his painting [an inheritance] for Sara just to make her happy, whereas in season 1 he had no intention to sell even one bit, he just simply accepted that he would get kicked out of school.). We saw how Wilhelm is treated by the crown and through the season how he slowly gets over his anxiety and how he accepts his emotions.
Overall it was a nice season with in depth character analysis. We get to know the side characters better. But the main plot does not meet the expectations. Still the ending made everything worth it and I’m again really excited for a season 3 and to see how people especially the crown will react to Wilhelm spilling the beans which they tried too hard to protect for one and a half seasons.
[Netflix] With an interesting first season that showed a love story in an honest way, without falling into the conventional view, season 2 falls into boredom and is predictable, lengthening without brilliance a plot that has no new things to say. There is an attempt to give a little more space to the secondary characters, but the plots are bland, without much depth. It ends up falling into everything that it managed to avoid in the first season.

I dld enjoy the new season but compared to season 1, not every episode could have a quite distinct inclusion to story, the last episode was great tho damm,
But again i have to rewatch it later on like in summer, maybe the way i think would change
