Started watching this for the first time in about 17 years and after seeing season 1 I really think it holds up pretty well, even though the CG animation can be considered dated and a bit choppy nowadays I think it mashes pretty well with the traditional animation of the characters and backgrounds. The story so far feels like a mash up of Star Wars and Hamlet, as a matter of fact the atmosphere of the show feels as if it was the same as the original Star Wars trilogy. Planet Zi is caught up in a war between an Empire and a Republic which is surrounded by a conspiracy to murder and replace a character of royalty. The beginning of it does a great job at reeling you in, the mystery behind Fiona really got me wanting to learn what she was and how she fits into the world they're in and as the characters learn more about her it got me more curious.
If you're watching this show it's probably for the action which I find pretty entertaining, the music does a great job of making the battles feel epic. The most exciting fights were the ones between Van and Raven, I even liked their final fight better than the season finale. However that doesn't mean the season finale was bad, I really enjoyed seeing almost every single main and supporting character working together as an army. The humor is surprisingly pretty good, Van's hunger, Irvine trying to grab Zeke, Fiona's naivety and innocence got laughs out of me.
If I had to say anything negative is that the English dub has some bad line deliveries here and there, mostly when they scream someone's name or scream no, but don't let that stop you from watching it, it's actually a pretty good dub. It's also pretty obvious that they reuse animations constantly but that's just nitpicking.
I find it pretty comical that in a world where everyone has a war machine at their disposal people still use guns.
