Past Lives

The film sits like a memory. It is possible to love your life and also grieve for the life not lived. Perfect.

Leave the World Behind

At its best when it concentrates on the people together in the house. Less successful when the setting moves away or dialogue turns to exposition.

The stuff with the animals makes zero sense in the context of the film.

The Creator

Madeline Youna Voyles gives a really great performance in a visually stunning film somewhat let down by a clunky story that would have benefited from a tighter focus and shorter running time.

Dream Scenario

Fun allagory on internet fame and infamy. Nick Cage dialled down to 1 is delightful. Did not outstay it's welcome.

Poor Things

Visually bold, linguistically rich, and utterly infuriating. Falls on the wrong side of self indulgence. I hated it!

Godzilla Minus One

Great! A study in survivor guilt, battle trauma and a generation trying to find meaning in a post war world. oh and when the big guy turns up it is properly terrifying.

Catherine Called Birdy

Maybe a little long but nothing if not charming. Some nice performances, topped off by Bella Ramsey whose natural likeability and believability shine bright.

All of Us Strangers

A modern fairy tale. Thought-provoking and emotional with excellent performances all round. Makes a beautiful companion piece to "Still Lives". The train to Croydon has rarely seemed so magical!

The Holdovers

Delightful low stack story, beautifully crafted and delightfully acted.

Trim Season

Overblown, overlong, gothic nonsense. Not without some limited charm but ultimately needed to be more fun or less melodramatic.

The Last Video Store

Fun and affectionate tribute to the VHS films of the 80s and 90s and the people who still love them.

Sing Street

Pure joy! and the best look down the Camara since "The 400 Blows".

Theater Camp

Turns out mockumentary is not as easy as Christopher Guest makes it look! Perhaps also let down by a lack of affection for it's characters, we seem to be invited to laugh at not with them.

Once

A simple effective film which tells the story of the strength we can derive from those around us and how they can give us the strength to not give up on our dreams. Enjoyable.
