This was a great disappointment. I understand that to condense an expansive life into a 4 part TV series requires selective content and a seminole focus but to define Catherine the Great's life by a fabricated love story was just too hard for me to stomach. I'm a huge Helen Mirrren fan but there was just no motivation for her character nor chemistry with her co-star Jason Clarke. What a waste of talent. What a deconstruction of history. What a disappointment. I give the series a 5 (meh) out of 10. [Historical? Drama]
I started watching this because I loved Jinyoung on He Is Psychometric (a great kdrama btw, you should totally watch it). I gotta say, I was hooked from the very first episode! Yes, it seems like it's the typical "first love that got away" from the first glance, but there's much more to it, I can tell already. The cinematography is great and the actors are excellent!
Edit: after finishing it, I have to add that it did live up to my expectations and gave so much more! Totally recommend it, just be warned that you'll shed a lot of tears!
Pretty boring show. Pace is too slow and there's just not a lot of plot. They also tried way too hard to make the characters quirky.
What a refreshing change of pace! Probably worth checking out if, like me, you found 90% of 2020 kdramas (Jan-Sept) ridiculously disappointing. Would recommend watching the teaser first to see if you could be into the genre.
Also, I forgot how brilliant of an actor Nam Joo-hyuk is. :raised_hands_tone4:
WHAT KIND OF ENDING WAS THAT?!!!! I NEED CLOSURE
