It's a very straight forward light-noir, but fun all the way through because the cast is great and the script is clever. It doesn't overwork itself trying to be anything more complicated than it needs to be and is filled with plenty of fun references and head nods. The perfect level of self-aware.
Testament: The Story of Moses is a compelling biographical docudrama from Netflix. Christian, Jewish, and Muslim scholars discuss the story of Moses; from his prophetic birth to his exile in the desert to his calling to free the Hebrews from Pharaoh. Interviews with the scholars are mixed with dramatic recreations and narration. The quality of the acting varies but is pretty good overall, and the production values, costumes, sets, score, etc., are quite well-done. Additionally, the scholars do an impressive job at articulating their points; although it gets a little confusing at times as the Muslim scriptures differ from the Judeo-Christian ones. And unlike other documentaries, the focus is less on historical proofs and more on the intent of the scripture writers in presenting Moses’ story the way that they did. Well-crafted and insightful, Testament: The Story of Moses is a comprehensive look at one of history’s most important religious figures.
Two episodes in and I find this compelling and better than the Chinese version (in terms of pacing). If you're a scifi fan looking for new ideas and concepts to expand your horizons then this is definitely right up your alley.
Its gonzo John Wick. I loved it.
Absurd, campy, over the top in every direction, and yet it pulls it all together. Some people might think it's a poor clone of Wick or the 80s/90s action cinema it tributes, but it was just fun. As long as it executes it well, no complaints from me.
This is Statham at some of his finest
Just found this on netflix and ended up getting through it very fast. I found the way they handled the underlying addiction topic to be fantastic, as they represent it pretty accurately. This was a hidden gem for me, and my only complaint was how season 3 ended in 2020, and it is now 2024 with no update...
Its intentionally campy and an obvious love letter to stupid b-movie logic and dialog. It just doesn't sing.
If you LOVE bad horror and cornball dialog with completely illogical characters who make bizarre decisions and say things that make little sense other than to hamfist a plot, then this is your bag.
I don't say those things to criticize. They are what they are, and sometimes they're charming. Sometimes they're what people look forward to.
I just found it uninspired and a rehash of played out concepts better executed in other movies.
