FlashForward: 1x02 White to Play

I love that Shohreh Aghdashloo is unmistakable from her voice alone.
This show does a solid job of drip feeding the right amount of intrigue. No wonder I was hooked back then. I'm glad I've forgotten everything and can watch it again like this!

There are so many layers in this show when it comes to the dynamics of women in male dominated industries. Deborah using the classic damsel approach that works on so many for a reason but turns out being her badass self got her even further... Just not how she expected!

Any other L Word fans recognise Tony as Burr Connor?

The Christina Hendricks cameo was o.o wowzers. Gutted Ava had to correct her and didn't just take the chance :joy:

Hacks: 3x05 One Day

The delivery of Ava saying Kristen Stewart after mentioning twilight was perfection. Not even a pause or punctuation. Just a clear thought process and I get it.
This was a great bonding episode and damn made me scared to go hiking though! My dodgy ankle could never!

FlashForward: 1x01 No More Good Days

I watched this show when it first aired and loved it! It's been enough years now that I've forgotten the details though so figured it's due a rewatch.
It's amazing that I could identify it was Ramin Djawadi's work on the soundtrack just by his style in Person of Interest a couple of years on.
Also the creator of this would later go on to make two favourite films of mine (Man of Steel and BvS). No wonder Ioved this show!

Watching now a bit more seasoned it has some pilot woes and some tough bro over acting from the lead but nothing that detracts too much. Hopefully settles in a bit more as time goes on.

My partner is a big drag race fan but I've never watched it before. I know and enjoy things I've seen Trixie and Katya in since though so we decided this should be the season we start with since it's not usually my type of thing.
Right before the judging each episode we pause and I say my thoughts and predictions and I've been pretty accurate on so far... Until this episode. I didn't expect Trixie to be in the bottom two let alone not make the cut! Wtf!
Pearl has been giving NOTHING and last ep was warned for it. Yet somehow she makes it over Trixie who the worst they said about her is that they felt she had more to give!
I was shook! This is what usually turns me away from 'reality TV' coz I always end up feeling that there is more behind the judges choices than talent... GBBO became less genuine with it moved to Channel 4. More akin to these fixed US shows... Shall see how we go!

The Twilight Zone: 2x10 You Might Also Like

No wonder this show was cancelled. What utter trash this has been as a whole. Maybe 3 standout episodes of the 20?
I can certainly see what this one was trying to do much as with most, it didn't have the finesse nor quality to back it up.

I didn't realise how much I missed these two until they were on my screen again. What a dynamic. Looking forward to seeing them claw that relationship together once again.
Absolute top tier song choice rolling into the credits as well.

I kinda love Ava. She's the classic ridiculous character you love to 'hate' for her antics. The actor delivers the lines so well.

A bit all over the place and I find I don't care about most of the characters these days.
It was 'good' to see an abortion procedure portrayed like that. A totally normal scenario and really de-mystified it for me. Was handled well without it being over the top and messagey like Greys has been in the past!

Standard post-pilot tweaks to bed in the character types and dynamics. They clearly had to give Janine a bf so it's not an obvious romance path for her and the sub teacher. Basically following the same formula we've seen work in all the other US TV shows. He'll pine. She'll be oblivious. Then she'll like him and he'll be dating someone. And so on. And so on.
I like the wisened teacher the best so far.

Someone made a comment that Moldaver kept her friend alive :joy: that shit was queer coded af.
Totally unexpected. Much like the rest of this episode! My theory about 31 was close!
What a triumph of an adaptation! Fantastic work all around. I'm not even mad about yet another 'bury your gays' coz no one gets a happy ending in the wasteland.
Does make me wonder about the chick from Vault 4 from Shady Sands though. Her long black locks very similar to Lucy and her mum...

Pretty mid pilot as they go. Feel like the plot is likely to depress me more than anything else though!
Already a massive oversight with the documentary format if they've shown a crime on screen day one though? Bit lazy

Fallout: 1x06 The Trap

A nice story building episode with some great reveals at the end. I had a theory about Vault 31 being some kind of control vault for 33 and 32 given that they've supplied their Overseerers and refurbed the trashed vault pretty fast. This episode kinds confirmed that when the Cooper's wife mentioned the 'better' vaults that will control others.
Holy moly what is Moldaver all about though! She's no Ghoul but she's been around as long as him and still looks just as fine as she did back then!

My best friend is a huge fallout fan and deep in the lore. He's given me no spoilers but says so far he is extremely happy with the whole production and they're absolutely nailing this adaptation.

Liking the Vault 31 intrigue. We are in dangerous territory of falling into the age old cliché romance of the male and female lead character characters though. Let's hope we swerve that and the show does something different!

Also I might still be looking for Person of Interest references but.. The when they were checking out the newly cleaned up Vault 32 after we the viewer have seen the destruction there only days before... And Norm swipes his finger across the newly painted white wall...
Reminded me 4x12 'Control-Alt-Delete'. After the shootout under the stock exchange.

I was worried this was going to have a romantic spin on it like Groundhog day. Super glad when she called out how utterly creepy it is to gamify winning her over like that. I realised the premise as soon as the title card was revealed unfortunately but didn't expect the direction.
Maybe that's because I was just talking about the time loop concept in my book club a couple of days ago! (reading the first fifteen lives of Harry August). Either way it was enjoyable enough and glad the creepy guy didn't get rewarded for that.

The idea was nice but couldn't shake the delivery from the lead being terrible. The writing as a whole was pretty weak tbf. And it was all a bit convenient in the end. Just because a hunk of gold lands in the middle of town doesn't solve anything.

Finch and Bear adventures :hearts: Michael Emerson is stellar as ever. Can't wait to see where it all leads.
Also still don't care about Brotherhood wannabe guy.

Goggins' Ghoul just seems like a poor man's western Deadpool atm so no wonder people are all over him. Hoping for a bit more depth there.

All in on Lucy's journey. Wanna see her slowly become a surface badass. Why tf couldn't she get a weapon from Ma though!

I've played some of the games but not all. Enough to appreciate the setting but not get butt hurt about details. Solid start, I'm more enthused about Lucy's plot than the brotherhood though.
Also is the bounty on Harold Finch and Bear :joy:
I do wonder if we'll get any Person of Interest or Westworld nods at all.
I expected a bit more music wise with Ramin Djawadi involved again but it's only the first episode so we'll see. That swell of music as Walton Goggins rode off as the bombs hit was enough to make me feel a bit emotional tbh. It had the essense of Inon Zur's FO4 theme in it.

Another painfully bad episode. The concept was sound but the execution and writing were awful. Christopher Meloni was solid but the acting from the mum and 'daughter' was painfully bad. Glad it was only a short one. I genuinely almost turned it off before the end.

I think the power dynamic revelation was one of the most important parts of the 'me too' movement. And on top of that is the whole set of reasons women talk themselves out of saying anything or pushing back. This was really well done.
And I really felt for Nestor Campbell's character in that moment, with it having clearly played on his mind about how he'd gotten to that point with his subordinate. Power and sexuality is such a complex interaction. Billy Crudip's character is playing all the games though. Not sure what his overall plan is. But he skillfully steered Bradley's divergence in that interview.

Really wasn't sure I cared for Mitch's B-plot until his chat with Martin Short's character. That was a chilling moment for him and us to see there is nuance in it all.

Bradley is wonderful and I really hope they find this balance between her and Alex to the benefit of all. I wanna see her absolutely fly.

I watched the first episode a good while back and wasn't driven to watch the next. Finally did and even through a lot of this episode I wasn't sure the show was for me. That final moment though of Alex turning the manipulation attempts right on their head? I'm here for that! I enjoyed UnReal, which heavily dramatised behind the scenes of the bachelor style show. This seems very realistic so far an hoping it keeps my interest!

His Dark Materials: 3x08 The Botanic Garden

I first read these books just under 20 years ago and wouldn't have dreamed of seeing them adapted like this. There were some less liked changes for me and a few casting duds but the rest made up for it!
I'm glad they dedicated a whole episode to this section, it really deserved it.
Mary's love backstory tweak to falling in love with a woman fit surprisingly well and was beautifully depicted.
I was in tears through Will and Lyra's pain. The actor for Will could have been a bit stronger but crikey, Dafne Keen sure made up for it! Absolutely nailed this character for me.
A beautiful and bittersweet ending. And just as when I finished the book, I didn't want to leave this world.
