Finally a Radiohead song. There's the Ramin Djawadi I know and love. He's still in there somewhere. Even if score still isn't bringing anything special.
So it's ep 3 and the movement of the Trisolarians (or whatever they're calling them here) has already been revealed. There's only really one big reveal left and we're not even halfway through the season. My only assumption is that they're doing more than book 1. Makes sense if you need more stakes for the TV medium. Damn maybe I should have read the next one too!
The computer attempt and progression was such a good part of the book. They could have at least gone into a bit more detail on the logic gates, buses and how long it took. Even across chaotic eras with 'memory storage'! Such a shame to glaze over that whole thing.
But hey ho at least Jack is dead.
Bit disappointed they've brought the Ye Wenjie message stuff so early on. And Mike Evans too. They really do have to write it plain for general Netflix watchers huh. Rather than keeping mysteries and letting things develop.
Then again even with things being very clear there are still people in the comments confused about the grave of the 4 year old. :joy:
Rich man Samwell Tarly is immersion breaking in his awfulness. Usually when directors are well known for recasting people they at least make it the good actors! Maybe he was the cheapest?
The Wenjie stuff felt rushed and missed a lot of her progression. I don't think you truly felt her journey though to warrant her reply. The book definitely did.
I wanted to love this for the cast alone but it never quite got where it was trying to go in my eyes. It never earned the style and flair it was going for. Clunky and stylistically awkward. This was quite a struggle at times.
There were some gem moments that brought you back but overall, a disappointment for me. Karen Gillian was giving it Nebula voice but somehow with less screen presence. Her early scenes made me cringe so much.
It's your average action flick though but not rewatchable.
But also... Gay vibes from the aunts? Kinda nice to keep things subtle as it wouldn't be in keeping with them theme.
What has this show become when we're now watching two women vye for the affections of some mid bloke? Was this show made by the same people casting hot women to fall in love with ugly dudes in every rom com ever? I thought we were over that now.
Always enjoy a dig at Ellen though and her fake ass generosity.
Molly is better than this
Not as bad as people are making out but certainly not great. Suffered from some awkwardness mixed with some heavy handed hints. Worst of all was the villain though. Did they re dub him in ADR or something? Coz his dialogue never seemed to fit.
I liked the idea of the early Madame Web and the bond with the three girls. Just a shame it was a bit too cringey. But then again it was set in 2003! So maybe it was on point for films of the time :yum:
Nice to see someone calling out the usage of the word 'female' like that. It's becoming an epidemic
Loved this and didn't want to leave these characters. It's not often a film feels this authentic to how friendships are and how people really talk. Even down to having a friend with a strong disdain for someone else in your life. Not often you get that dynamic on screen without it building to come hokey resolution.
Dakota Johnson was so much herself in this and I was utterly charmed. That first hangout with Brittany was so charged and I was swooning over Lucy.
I was audibly reacting to the morning after their night together too! Arghh. Poor girl.
I saw Tig was going to be in it from the opening credits but totally forgot by the time she rolled around. The cameo was so her.
This film was very much about friendship and how complex it can be when navigating life's challenges. Solid journey well made.
Edit - just realised where I know Jane from - Devs! I did not like her performance in that at all (but likely the writing and character on the spectrum angle there?) really enjoyed her here though. Super fucking cute.
You know what? Amy has really grown on me :joy: she's actually really entertaining.
This was a solid twist this ep and then more girls on top! I'm hooked
Something about Manny made me feel weird? The way he talked and carried himself was just odd. Like a serial killer emulating normal humans or something :joy:
Not sure about the vibe of this episode. They're chopping and changing a lot which is fair to mix it up but only if it works. The Melissa breakup felt very disjointed. A way to force a storyline change for her maybe? Seemed harsh though
An emotional rewatch for me. The Dana stuff was painful but well done. She was so well loved and that's lovely to see.
The tech dialogue in Max's work scenes are pure nonsense though. What were the writers on there :joy:
Bryce's smile in the flashforward is so earnest and full of love. Really moving
Imagine getting Jim Rash and under utilising him like this :joy:
Also not happy the Molly x Arthur thing seems back on. It seems more like she's happy to have genuine people. Really not seeing romance. Pleaseeee no.
Amy grew on me a bit more this ep. She seemed to have settled down a bit and seeing her caring side was nice.
This show isn't playing with the mini games and reveals though. The drama is delicious!
My heart was pounding through the last portion. Someone else called it terribly human and I think that's spot on. Draw whatever conclusions you want from it, that's what art is. But don't fool yourself into thinking people aren't fully capable of every moment of this film.
Lesbian Dentist? Possible outside reference to Paula Pell's character in Girls5Eva? (who happens to be CP on this show)
Benjamin Bratt looked insanely fine in this ep. Get it girl
"This is the terrace, I'm Femme for Femme" is iconic. I can't stand Amy. :joy: Last ep she just talked like a chronically online person and this time was all about her hangups about her usual type. Haha.
This ep made us WILD though. Is this why straight people get so hyped about Love Island?
I can't imagine them having those conversations about identify and queer history on that show mind you!
Holy shit. I underestimated Ava as well there. Absolute power move and will really turn their dynamic on its head.
Props to Jimmy for walking away from that meeting.
Terrible episode. Sofia is unlikeable and annoying with zero redeeming qualities. If this episode was supposed to give her more dimensions it failed.
Let's hope they've shelved the Arthur romance thing coz honestly why.
It'll be interesting to see how this show walks the line in our current 'eat the rich' culture between being in on the joke, being way off point, and being preachy about our state of affairs.
Maya being charming no matter what certainly helps.
Damn that outcome was unexpected and the letter so powerful.
Struggling with this show. It's not keeping my interest enough to remember to watch another episode nor during the ep itself. The most interesting part was the Viltrumite showing up. It's starting to run it's course with me.
Jimmy and Kayla being surprisingly amazing??
Not a reality TV kinda girl but have seen a bit of buzz around this so thought I'd give it a go with my partner. Was pretty cute ngl and we were squealing a bit at parts haha. Will see how it goes. If it ends up feeling like manufactured reality TV I'll be out!
Oh damn. The Duncan death reveal was unexpected and kinda perfect in that way.
Damn I'd even forgotten this had a wlw storyline! That's not like me at all :joy: was well woven into the overall character work imo.
Lots of intrigue and policial moves this ep.
I found myself looking forward to watching this today. I miss shows like this.
Gina Rodriguez is so fricken cute in this show. I'm sad that the reason I remembered to catch up was reading be news that it hadn't been renewed for s2. I get it though. It's still missing something making it super special but it's a cute show.
Also it was really refreshing for the love interest to be upfront about his desire to not have kids and it was accepted right away. No harm no foul for the break up!
The Nazi's info was proper weak though. Surely they could have gotten the crow information from anywhere in their research! I shouldn't pick holes in this kind of show but really. Super weak thread there.
Guessing we'll meet grown up Somalian kid with identifiable facial scar next ep :yum:
I love that Shohreh Aghdashloo is unmistakable from her voice alone.
This show does a solid job of drip feeding the right amount of intrigue. No wonder I was hooked back then. I'm glad I've forgotten everything and can watch it again like this!
