The Monuments Men

The Monuments Men, despite its impressive cast, lands as just an okay movie. It fails to deliver the extraordinary experience expected from such a talented ensemble. While the concept is intriguing, the execution leaves much to be desired, leaving you with a sense of unfulfilled potential.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2

Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 proves they saved the best for last. It’s a stellar addition to the series, providing plenty of entertainment and closure. The film provides the best action and effects of the entire series, making it my personal favorite of the entire franchise. A thrilling and satisfying conclusion to the saga.

The Hunger Games exceeded my expectations with a unique storyline and compelling characters. The film’s action scenes were impressive, delivering an engaging experience, complemented by some decent special effects. The film’s dystopian world is brought to life with impressive visuals, however I expected the special effects to be a bit better. The storyline is ultimately what created the hype for this film.

Tread

A documentary unlike anything I've ever seen. It's both riveting and chilling to witness how the central figure meticulously planned and executed his actions. The level of forethought and preparation is almost scary. This film provides a unique exploration of his mindset and the events that led to an extraordinary act.

LBJ

I’m not sure about the historical accuracy, but Woody Harrelson's portrayal of Lyndon B. Johnson is notable. He brings depth and authenticity to the character, making the film a decent watch for his performance alone. While the accuracy may be debatable, Harrelson's portrayal is the main standout in this biopic.

Hard Rain

Hard Rain had some moments, but I couldn't help but expect more from a film featuring Morgan Freeman. While it had the potential for a thrilling disaster flick, it fell short of my expectations. Freeman's talent is undeniable, but the film's execution didn't fully capitalize on it.

Rocky IV

Ironically, Rocky IV proves that the fourth movie in a series can sometimes be the best. It takes the iconic Rocky Balboa to new heights. This film is filled with some intense moments and an emotionally charged storyline. It may have taken the series to its peak, making it a standout in the Rocky saga.

Rocky III

Rocky III is a must-watch for one simple reason: Mr. T. His portrayal of Clubber Lang is the driving force behind this installment. With his charisma and presence, Mr. T elevates the film to a whole new level of excitement. If you're a fan of the Rocky series or just enjoy compelling villains, this is a good watch!

Rocky II

Rocky II may not quite reach the same level of the original film, but it's still a worthy watch for fans of the Rocky series. It continues the story of the iconic boxer, offering a satisfying continuation of his journey. While it doesn't have the same novelty as the first, it has its own merits and adds depth to the character of Rocky Balboa.

Rocky

Rocky is undoubtedly a great classic that left an unforgettable mark on cinema. However, while it set the stage for an iconic film series, I would argue it's not the best of the bunch. Nonetheless, it remains a powerful and inspirational film that laid the foundation for one of the most beloved franchises in movie history.

The Double

The movie that surprisingly gives away its major twist in the trailer, which can be disappointing if you haven’t already seen it. However, if you go in without prior knowledge of the twist, it still offers a decent watch.

Abandoned

Abandoned is a solid survival movie, particularly for those who appreciate tales of survival at sea. It captures the essence of the genre well, delivering tension, drama, and the struggle for survival in a compelling way. If you enjoy stories of resilience against the elements, it’s definitely worth a watch.

Darkness Falls

This film falls into that middle ground where it's neither exceptionally good nor painfully bad. It does have some redeeming qualities, but it kind of feels like a TV miniseries. While it may not reach the heights of top-tier thriller films, it does manage to provide a decent dose of suspense.

Ava

Ava may not reach the upper echelons of top assassin movies, but it offers an entertaining experience that keeps you engaged. Jessica Chastain's performance adds depth to the character, and the film delivers on action and intrigue. While it doesn't reinvent the genre, it's a solid option for those seeking an enjoyable assassin-centric thriller.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York may not offer much that's drastically different from the original classic, but it remains a good addition to the Christmas movie lineup. It keeps the same winning formula that made the first film a hit, with a heartwarming story and some humor.

The Machine was an interesting watch for a fan of Kreisher’s stand-up work. While I didn't have particularly high expectations, it had its moments. However, it largely stayed in line with what I anticipated. It's a film that delivers the style of humor you'd expect from the comedian, making it a familiar viewing experience but still not great.

U-571

U-571 is a fantastic WWII movie that balances a compelling plot with a fair amount of historical context and entertainment. While it may not be the most accurate representation of the events it's based on, it still provides a gripping narrative that immerses you in the wartime atmosphere. It successfully blends history with thrilling action, making it a satisfying watch for both history buffs and fans of wartime dramas.

The Spirit

A decent film, but if you're expecting the visual flair and storytelling of Sin City, you might want to look elsewhere. While it shares a graphic novel origin, it doesn't quite reach the same level of style and substance. It has its moments, but it's not in the same league as Sin City. Still, if you're a fan of the genre, it's worth giving it a watch.

88 Minutes

88 Minutes is a decent film, but it doesn't quite rank among Al Pacino's best work. That said, it manages to keep you entertained with its array of twists and turns. While it may not be a standout in Pacino's filmography, it's a solid thriller that holds its own in the genre.

Unstoppable

Unstoppable might not score high on the realism scale, but it certainly delivers when it comes to action. While I expected a bit more depth from a Denzel Washington film, it still offers plenty of entertainment with its action packed train scenes and suspenseful plot. If you're in the mood for a high-octane action movie that doesn't necessarily prioritize realism, this one won't disappoint.

Hunter Killer

Had the potential for greatness with actors like Gary Oldman and Gerard Butler on board, but it ultimately fell short of expectations. Gone Baby Gone

Gone Baby Gone is a captivating film, thanks in large part to its exceptional cast. The performances, especially by Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan, are top-notch and draw you into the story. Jack Reacher

May not be groundbreaking, but it's undeniably entertaining, especially for fans of action-packed films. With Tom Cruise in the lead role, you can expect plenty of thrilling action sequences. The Strangers

Undeniably a creepy and unsettling film. What sets it apart, and what I appreciate in a good horror movie, is its ability to tap into elements of realism. The sense of vulnerability and the feeling that something like this could happen in real life makes it all the more terrifying. It's a haunting experience that lingers long after the movie ends, and that's what makes it a standout in the horror genre.

True Lies

True Lies is a fantastic blend of spy action and comedy, offering a unique and entertaining experience. Arnold Schwarzenegger's charisma and humor contribute to this 90’s classic, making it a timeless favorite for action movie enthusiasts. Role Models

Role Models was a big disappointment, especially as a fan of Paul Rudd. I expected more from this comedy, but it struggled to maintain my interest throughout. While it had its moments, the overall execution fell short of what I had hoped for. Despite Rudd's presence, it lacked the comedic punch and engagement that I was looking for.

The Founder

A compelling film that sheds light on a story sadly not uncommon in the business world, though rarely on this grand scale. It serves as a cautionary tale that makes you reconsider supporting large corporations like McDonald's. This thought-provoking narrative challenges our perceptions of success and ethics in the business arena. After watching, you might think twice about where you choose to spend your dining dollars.
