season 1 & 2
the family plotline is kinda annoying. other then that really solid show. i love holder and lindens chemistry, great characters.
the episodes focused more around the family are weaker than the rest but got better in season 2.
the way it wrapped up whew
season 3
finished the season in a night!
loved bullet, story and writing were great (ruthless in getting you invested in the story and characters, building things up and making unconventional/expected turns)
you saw making a murderer, you loved it, you're a true crime fiend cause humans are fucked up and for some reason we're drawn to shit like this, and you want more of it.
here you go
you just gotta know one thing going into it, it's indie. it's A&E. which means it's unprofessional as hell, sometimes to the point where it's funny. it's just two people runnin around with cameras tryna piece shit together. theres some chainsmoking german guy on skype acting as the serial killer expert. the main info they're going on are online amateur detective sites. so theres lot's of grasping on straws and even some meta moments when they acknowledge they're probably chasing after a hoax or baseless rumors. everything is made overdramatic as hell by infusing sound effects after every other sentence and cutting to unrelated images.
and i ate this shit up in one day
this show starts with a single serial killer case and somehow quickly expands to exposing 2, 3, 4 and eventually a nationwide epidemic of unsolved murders of sexworkers. it gets so out of hand that they pretty much end up throwing out the entire concept of the show upon realization that this is happening everywhere. and no one really seems to care. another dead sexworker to throw on the pile and forget about.
theres even one moment where the daughter of one of the victims explains that the police wouldn't allow her family to file a missing persons report on her deceased mother because she was connected to sexwork and drugs, so they had to report her car missing instead in hopes of finding her.
so despite all the drawbacks i mentioned earlier, which were actually a plus for me as they added onto the charm of the show, this is a very important docu series that sheds light on a subject we don't hear nearly enough about.
easy and engaging watch. well shot, with some great standout drone footage.
the writing is too on the nose sometimes but other than that i enjoyed it for the most part. finale was strong, looking forward to season 2
didn't really like season 4, everything felt too cold and distant. the story wasn't as interesting as in the previous seasons.
the way it wrapped up though, great ending.
good thing i still have the original to watch!
you can see lindelof challenging himself at every step. everything he's written up to this becomes natural part of it, building an unprecedented universe of his own where his unmistakeable touches fuse with the vision of everyone working on any individual project or aspect of a project, which only in his case makes me feel better about my blanket disregarding of directors and DP's (despite putting in work) when it comes to tv. (word to composer too, he got another one.)
he's god pulling the strings, and i don't know of any other TV or Film writer who has internalized this to such a degree, on such a refined scale. to brasenly hop right back on his bullshit coming from a show that was intended as reconciliation for the show previous, (which it succeeded at!) full steam ahead right back into unbridled indulgement. all under the same coherent thematic umbrella.

post netflix disillusionment aside, tv is still very much the best it's ever been right now, allowing shit like this to escalate to where it can actually become a thing that exists, when The Leftovers for all its acclaim was flirting with cancellation for its whole run. these execs are stans now.
you can't heal under a mask angela
regina king for best actress. & i'm talking lifetime achievement, cuz this aint just about theatrics
been a minute since i had such a good binge. 2 nights, lopsided @ the first. pacing tight as can be and everything that comes with that
orlando & cara! everything tht comes with that
talk about a show that starts with a bang. grabs you within seconds, doesn't let up till the end.
stana katic is so great
eleven fuckin snapped. netflix rly got the magic wand for their originals
i didnt know anything going into this so i thought winona was gonna be the lead, wasnt even mad when the kids turned out being the main characters cause they all delivered. amazing performances, especially by millie brown (eleven). scientist. adults delivered too, david harbour did stuff
score is crazy. ran truh it in one sitting! only the second time i ever finished a season in one go & now im bout to go cry in one go. they captured the 80's feel efficiently like when in pokemon go you capture 2 of em in the same spot
gets better with each season. great fun
season 1 & 2
pretty weak acting & dialogue. but the story and characters somehow make it work, very enjoyable
