Deserved Oscar Winner. Definitely not the best movie of all time, not even the best korean movie, but it has a powerful story with a nice ending. Just one thing that is not logical: how in the hell nobody knows about the room under the house, I mean the rich daughter was there at the end with Kevin laying in front of it, now way she didn't see this
I see that some people say the ending is actually happy and that everything seemed to work out at the end! But i find that's not true!
We can clearly see at the ending that Ki-woo is still poor and dreaming of making his message to his father comes true
but did it actually happene or not? we don't know for sure!
And i guess it didn't happen and that was because the reference back then when they lost their house, when the father told Kim Ki-woo that plans don't always success and that dreams never come true, so it actually does make sense.
The only thing i don't like that how did actually Kim Ki-woo survive?:D
I mean he has been hit twice by a huge rock in his head!!
And the funny thing that the woman who hit her head by falling over the stairs is the one who died :D!
completely deserved the oscars it got, amazing film in every way. never would've expected two of my favorite films to be from korea but here we are.
How this piece of silly slapstick won so many awards andfascinates so many people is totally beyond my understanding. A highly overrated movie.
There is no movie on Earth better than this one. I mean it. Nobody ever made a film like this before, this is more than a masterpiece, this is more than a simple movie.
A well done movie for sure. But nothing special. 7 from me. My guess the US audience finds it so fresh because they are not watching many foreign movies or shows in general.
Why is Parasite such a big deal? Because it’s different. It’s not a Hollywood movie, it's completely new and original.
I don’t think Hollywood is running out of ideas, but I think they’re more focused on making a profit and safe choices. That’s why they keep remaking the same tired scripts with different actors. Basically, the studios are too afraid to take a chance on something new because they are scared the movie won’t be “woke” enough. That’s why studios are busy with actors' skin color, sexuality or gender, not the actual story or characters. Creators want to be seen as “woke” without actually developing good, complex personalities and storylines for the characters because flaws make for interesting characters, but showing a female/minority character with any flaws will be condemned as sexism/racism by SJWs. That’s how you end up with shallow Mary Sue heroes with no character development.
Parasite is wildly innovative, suspenseful, unpredictable, with many subtle metaphors and satirical notes with pure silence. This is not a "bad guys" vs "good guys" movie, the world isn't black and white. The creator went out of his way to make sure the line of good vs bad was non existent. There are no teams, we are not supposed to pick sides. Both families are fucked up, and all of them are parasites, in some way. I really liked the use of stench as a symbol for poverty. And how the movie pitted a poor family against another poor family, and ultimately the poor people are the ones that still lose. Also, the movie shows how greed can be your downfall.
Just like any other movie, it requires some suspense of disbelief at various points. For example, somehow surviving two rock hits; the detectives didn’t search the entire house, even though they were looking for a man wanted for murder; the scene where the Kims are hiding under the table dragged out but the slow zoom on Mr. Kim’s face as he felt entirely ashamed in front of his children was so utterly heartbreaking.
It is definitely a well-made movie that holds your attention throughout. However, I do still think its a little overhyped by some people. Calling it the movie of the decade is beyond hasty.
I loved the majority of this film, but also found the climax to be a little off.
After the first act, you’ll be completely aware of the kind of movie that you’re watching.
In my mind, I found the story and character arcs to be very comparable to something like The Wolf of Wallstreet , for example, but with the themes of something like Us.
The only problem with this film for me is the big climax.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m fine with Ki-Taek’s family being condemned for the fact that they’re shitheads , but the Tarantino-esque bloodbath scene didn’t fit this movie, at all.
It does so in concept, but not in terms of tone.
A real shame, because the first 110 minutes of it are flawless, and show all of Bong Joon-Ho’s talents on full display.
8.5/10
Well, first, can't see why it got the Palme d'Or. There's a plot, things happen, the story advances, there are even plot twists. And even if the story is slightly original, there's nothing that much out of the ordinary. It's a movie that can totally be appreciated and understood by normal people, which is kinda weird for Cannes.
That being said, it's good, the story is interesting and there is never a moment where the rythmn go down, it never becomes too long and the story keeps evolving the whole time. But the trailer was weird, making it look a lot more mysterious and dark than it really is, and at some point one starts wondering, ok, that's interesting, but where is it going ?
Then comes the plot twist. It totally changes the dynamics and the story of the movie, and the result is so so. The first half was mostly small sequences, the family's situation evolving slowly, the second half is more action driven, basicaly following only one plotline with the consequences of a single event. And so it becomes not only less interesting (relatively to the first part, it's still good) but it kinda breaks the first part too, as it clearly shows that it was going nowhere and there was the need for an random out of the blue brutal change for the story to continue.
And it really feel too random. First the discovery, but ok for this one. Then it all turns out to shit just because they stupidly fall down the stairs. Seriously ? Then the Parks suddenly come back, at just the worse moment possible. Combined with their home being trashed when they finally come back. And that's just it, the final disaster is basically random bad luck and lack of sleep, that's all. Well, and again the son letting his stone fall down the stairs. That is just too ridiculous.
Another weird thing for me is the family's situation. They have no job, no money, we know the son failed repeatedly his exams, they're presented as total losers. However, they are very good at the jobs they get, there's a vague rationale on why the son would be good enough in english, but:
1) His sister turns the monster kid in a good obedient student in a few minutes, and she may say she just googled the psychology stuff, there's not a hint on how se did that or how she could have cheated in doing that
2) The father seems like a great driver, though it's said he already had this kind of job
3) The mother may be googling the recipe, but she still manages to make them good enough, even in a very limited time
And not only that but the kids are master con artists. Seeing them figuring it out and stumbling would have been another interesting story, but there's none of that, they're naturally unbelievably good.
And that makes you wonder, how the hell was the family in that situation in the beginning.
As for the final drama, it also feels disconnected from the rest. The father's actions make no sense. In the middle of ll that, he just decides to kill Mr Park, basically because he said he smelled bad. After seeing his daughter and maybe his son killed by the other guy. That's another mostly random thing added, to link the story parts.
The movie is still good, it's masterfully directed and shot, actors are great, there's not really anything else to complain about, but because of that it feels just a little too rough and not finished in the plot department. It's like the initial situation, the first half story, the second part and the ending were just hastily stitched together through random events, because they needed to. It may be a small thing but it disturbed my enjoyment of the movie. Maybe just beause the trailer led me to believe there was something more.
absolutely amazing movie it caught me off guard in the first half
Some scenes are not much realistic, but curiosity got me glued to the movie. Overall, it’s pretty good, but I wish the ending was a happier one.
Felt like I didn’t get enough of this movie. I can see this as a TV show. 2 hours wasn’t enough to develop all the interesting plot twists. I kind of wish their original plan would go on for longer (at lease see the son get married or his friend come back from abroad).
Ever been so stunned by a movie that you ended up clapping when the credits started to roll? Well...now I have.
Parasite was a great movie…one of those movies that you still think about days after you’ve finished watching it. I loved how it was in Korean - it felt like a glimpse into a different culture. The story especially was chock full of literary devices. The symbolism of the water, starting with the money rock being given to the family as a gift for good fortune, was prevalent throughout the movie. Beginning with a small stream (from a drunkard peeing outside their home) and culminating in the night that changed the Kim family forever (torrential storm that ended up flooding their house).
The circular nature of the narrative was also satisfying but haunting. The irony was not lost on me that they discovered the man living in the basement of the Park family, only to have Ki Taek ended up living there himself after he killed Dong Ik. The parallels between the Park and Kim families were only enhanced by how different each family was. Two parents, a boy, and a girl - but from completely different walks of life.
I wasn’t expecting the story to go where it went…I wouldn’t have imagined the slaughter at the end of the movie watching the first hour and a half, which made it all the more surprising and meaningful. Parasite was certainly worth of winning best picture, and is a movie you’ll think about long after you’ve watched it.
This film will 100% be the type of film your friends say “no dude keep watching it gets good,” and it doesn’t but you keep smiling and nodding. By the end you say, “yeah, I get it,” (you don’t) and then go home and watch something you actually enjoy
:musical_note: Jessica, only child, Illinois, Chicago... :musical_note:
A true example of masterpiece. Amazingly written and brilliantly acted. The twists and turns are so expected yet you still feel that feeling of unexpectedness.
I came to this film way too late, I knew I should have watched it at the peak of it's hype.
More than 4 years later, I have an unrealistic expectation and this film did not meet it.
The acting was wonderful and yes, so too was the cinematography, everything about that was just ab out perfect, however, the ending was a massive let down and ruined the entire build up.
Based purely upon how it ends I would not recommend this movie to anyone, it is a severe disappointment. The only people I would suggest this movie to is anyone that has not heard anything about it, anyone that has never even heard of it, the few people left that can go into it with no preconceived ideas of what they're about to see.
Not only a freaking GREAT movie, PARASITE (2019) it's also MIRACULOUS.
I still can't believe my mother actually stayed awake watching avidly the screen. Usually she's asleep 20 minutes into any kind of movie lol
I am always fascinated by how little many Korean films can be categorized into one specific genre. "Parasite" is a prime example of this; from comedy and drama to social criticism and horror, Bong Joon-ho's Oscar-winning work has it all. And while I have a few issues with the overall tone at times, the film fully deserves its success. The performances are strong, and on a technical level, Bong deserves all the praise he gets. Throughout the film, his direction is excellent. Some lengths in the first half are forgivable because, at the end, it really goes wild. I'm definitely looking forward to the director's next project.
Watched 10/6/19. Found my old review at 8.6. Phenomenal flick. Really entertaining and gripping art. Was my fave movie of 2019.
All the characters, with the exception of the rich family, were so hateable.
Ki-woo betrays his friend on the first day of tutoring by getting romantically involved with Da-hye.
Ki-jung lands a great well-paying job too but they still have to go out of their way to ruin the life of other people to get even more.
Surely the income of the two kids combined would've been plenty to support their family.
Meanwhile Park's only "crime" was not liking the smell of bums and being more concerned with the wellbeing of his son in a life or death situation than the life of someone else and he dies for it.
The poor family is just a family of criminals with clearly enough talent to land a normal job ruining the life of everyone else in the movie.
It's hard to find any comedy in a movie where you have so much contempt for the actions of the main characters.
How this is viewed as a great commentary on classism or class issues in general beats me. Overrated movie.
First viewing - an 8. Second viewing (3 years later) - a 6.
Dropped this down a whole star several years after the first viewing. Don't think it holds up as well in the 2nd or 3rd act. I've never been able to buy into Mr. Kim's big moment in the 3rd act. The flooding scene however is great.
Also more Park So-dam please. She's fantastic.
If someone can recommend another movie like this. WOW I thought this was a anime at first. Seen the movie and i seen it about 6 times with different people. Everyone so shocked, this movie was so good and i can watch again and again. The story had me waiting to see more and the ending was wild. MUST SEE 10/10
i have no words... everything feels like a fever dream.

Such a layered movie packed with engaging twists and turns. I loved how it kept building. That ending was crazy good. The cinematography was of high quality. The performances were all impressive. Overall, this movie was amazing. 9/10 from me.
Fantastic film. The story doesn’t drag for a second. Sure, it’s a bit hard to believe at some points, but that doesn’t really bother me. Also: some amazing shots and scenes in this, absolutely beautiful. I didn’t really know what to expect going in, but it sure as hell wasn’t this. I say that in the best way possible, of course.
When I saw it on the movie theater I didn't write my opinion. Now that I just watched it again I simply can say that it is brilliant. The script, the acting, the plot, the direction. Everything is great. How comedy and drama are put together in a very easy way is marvelous. One of the best films of the century.
A real-life nalibiter. This movie kept me on the edge of seat for the entire runtime.
nonsense from the plot to the ratings...
A wonderfully horrific movie about the differences in class between two similar yet completely different families. At some points, you don't know who you should be rooting for, and that's what makes this movie so interesting.
I made a big mistake putting off watching this as long as I did. I was hearing all of the talk about how it was a film about class and wealth inequality, which doesn't exactly scream "Entertainment" to me. What I found was a unique story with one great twist about half way through. This was filled with characters that you love one minute and hate the next. There's a lot of suspense and a whole lot of "what-the-hell-was-that-about?!?" This is really solid and given its subject matter, turned out not to be preachy at all.
I was really surprised that the lower-class family was portrayed as scheming, con-artists. Somehow, I liked them even though they were downright cruel, not only with their lack of concern for the lives of the upper-class family's hired hands, but with the ease with which they physically attacked them. The upper-class, rich family were mostly just disconnected dolts who didn't really care much either, jettisoning loyal employees for shiny new help.
The ending was shocking and really dark. I'm not convinced Ki-woo earned enough to buy the house that allowed Ki-taek to come out of hiding. Instead, it's likely offering a glimpse into his dream to amend for his plan gone wrong.
With no plan, nothing can go wrong.
An uncategorisable masterpiece
Described on its official website as a "pitch-black modern fairy-tale", even a comprehensive plot summary wouldn't adequately delineate Parasite's real nature – part comedy of manners, part social satire, part heist film, part thriller, part horror, part family drama, part farce, part economic treatise, part social realism, part tragedy, part allegory. And that's just the opening scene! It's the Ulysses of cinema, adopting and shedding genres so often and so seamlessly that it effectively becomes its own genre. And, like Ulysses, it's exceptional in just about every way – screenplay, directing, cinematography, mise en scène, editing, production design, sound design, score, acting. There's not a weak link here, in a film that achieves that rarest of things – it lives up to the hype.

A very well made film with brilliant insights, and what a crazy ending! I still don't know if I understand or not
I'm actually giving this only 6/10 because I expected more. I expected to feel with the characters. Or learn something from their actions. Or impressive camera work. Or a soundtrack to remember.
With 2 months passed since I saw it I can say: it didn't leave any impression.
You can peel layers and layers of this movie and still wouldn't reach the center.
This movie is awesome. Great mix of perfectly executed acting, amazing cinematography, deep and distinguishable characters and an intriguing and unique story that ties all of these together. The music was well done and felt it was appropriate to every scene it was implemented into. Pacing was great and every scene or sequence felt like it had great purpose in either telling the story or diving deeper into the minds of the characters. Bong Joon-ho provides a very funny story with very serious and emotional tones and even including a bit of a heist movie as well. The cast choices are perfect, like most of Song Kang-ho's performances he is able to accurately portray a character in a very believable way. Even upon just watching this film for the first time, I already want to rewatch it. This director has once again created another brilliant film and I cannot wait to see what awaits in his future of Korean cinema.
in my head this movie is genius

The best comedy thriller I've ever seen. Comedy thriller, haha xd
My expectations were way too high after seeing all those 10's and 9's given to this movie.
It was decent... It has a lot of "what a coincidence!" moments, unrealistic events and reactions.
I did enjoy the last part of the movie! Still don't think its worth a 10 or 9 lol
The movie was a bit long but the story was really interesting. What a great idea and execution. Cinematography was really enjoyable.
the story is good and visually it is much better, the ending is sad but realistic at a certain point.
Interesting concept on social commentary. Coming from a ‘Western’ perspective, it appears that life in South Korea follows a common thread where striving points towards common goals desired by most people.
I wonder what the balance is for people being critical > being gentle. Currently, I imagine both is fine but the ultimate conclusion should have love and gentleness
Likeable family of crooks. Somewhat farcical.
The original title of the film is Gisaengchung.
The build up was interesting, though it started to get a little slow during the middle, and then escalated really quickly in a weirdly random way. I was starting to get invested, but the last third of the movie didn't really resonate with me... It felt too rushed & all over the place. I definitely agree with some others that this movie did not meet my expectations from all the hype.
"Parasite" caused quite a stir with its Best Picture win, but it was damn worth it. I went in it blind and came out absolutely floored. "Parasite" follows an unemployed family who get themselves involved in quite the peculiar situation. The less you know, the better. This is a film that will make you laugh, gut you with its drama, and leave you gasping with its shocking moments. Let me divide my reviews based on these three factors.
The humour is biting. Park So-dam probably stood out the most to me here in regards to how cunning and filled with personality her character was. "Parasite" is very much dark comedy, you have to be a little horrible to laugh at the antics on-screen. It's so unashamed in the events that transpire and goes along with them, meanwhile building up the foundation of what is to come.
Thematically, the film examines the class divide between the poor and the rich. A classic topic to explore, yet one that is very crucial to our modern world and has a lot of power if exectued properly. "Parasite" doesn't paint a narrative of the rich being these horrible tyrants and the poor facing them as the mistreated rebels. Quite the opposite, the downtrodden behave like animals, all for a chance at having a piece of the pie that is wealth. Morality is grey and you won't see the film taking a side. It simply is. Here is the reality many are facing in South Korea. This is what would happen if some were placed in this situation. It's outlandish, but grounded in reality. When it takes itself seriously, the movie touches on a person's innermost humanity. All we really dream of is a life of beauty and peace, one where we can be our best selves. Sadly, that isn't what the lottery always gives you.
Lastly, the shock. The horror. "Parasite" is a thriller on top of everything else, and it takes its time to show this nature. I have not felt so horrible watching something since some of Game of Thrones' most riveting episodes. It's that good. The story takes unexpected turns and is able to completely satisfy the viewer with all of them, never utilising its schticks for cheap shock value.
Please watch "Parasite", see for yourself. It's a thoroughly engaging ride that was never not interesting to me. I didn't mention that the acting was superb, the cast really add layers to those they portray. The music adds very nicely to film's moments. Outstanding cinematography. "Parasite" truly is a masterpiece, deserving of all its recognition. A layered movie that never ceases to be fun. Bong Joon-ho was able to craft a modern classic.
one of the best movies i've ever seen.
wow, just WOW
It's an eye-opener movie. Must watch for everyone!!
the score, the cinematography, the direction, the acting, the editing, the production design - everything is great. and yes im sweating and laughing all movie!
Bong Joon Ho's Parasite is a captivating and masterfully crafted commentary that is subtle and subversive. Cinematically its gasp-inducing because of its ingenious amalgamation of multiple genres, comedy, thrills, and chills with plot twists. The screenplay is spectacular which starts and ends with the same frame and sensational for the rest of the movie. A true masterpiece depicting the intricate details of class conflict. MUST WATCH.

I had no real idea what this movie was about (which is how I prefer to watch most movies), other than that it won some big awards. I was however, under the impression this was more of a horror movie.
Boy was I surprised. Turns out it was very much a black comedy. And quite enjoyable.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
This movie brilliantly captures the (more and more impossible) fight of the lower class to raise up the ladder. I especially loved the huge contrast between the two worlds which becomes stronger and stronger as events unfold. This eventually leads to a dramatic finale. However, Kim's final decision was too exaggerated, in my opinion, even though it makes for some good action.
The first part, when their master "plan" is playing out well, is quite funny. There was an underlying tension throughout the movie as it is unclear if and how things would go haywire. Despite its length, I was never bored. And there is also an unexpected twist halfway into the film. The cinematography is very good and the actors play well. I can understand that this movie won its prices.
Finally, The viewer is left wondering whether Ki-woo will manage to get rich and free his (still living) father. I doubt it, though.
What's left to say? Thematically flawless, it's a modern day fairy tale, each scene building upon its message. Each of the cast is remarkable, but special mention to So-dam with a charming and endearing performance both despite and because of her character's harsh and wry outer shell, Song for a role that builds to a horrifying and cathartic crescendo all at once, and Myung-heun who is better seen than described. The message of how capitalism warps and distances us all, and how trying to win by its rules only brings suffering, is universal, and there are scenes that I will remember for a long time. They struck my soul. Funny, tear jerking, thrilling, Parasite has it all.
Is this like the anime?
"Parasite" is a smart, highly entertaining black comedy, and it's good to see a good film getting some recognition for once. However, I feel like all the people who praised it as an absolute masterpiece and one of the best films of all times must have been watched "Transformers" and "Avengers" all their life. The film itself is solid in most aspects, but conceptually I don't buy the cheap social critique and easy populism that one more time depicts the rich as spoiled, dumb, and not worthy of their wealth. Perfect food for the envious middle-class that dreams of living in big houses, driving expensive cars. Retrospectively, the last season has been full of this kind of "us vs. them" films, and while "Parasite" might actually be the only one to be any good, it's not thanks to its message.
Actually, it would have been alright if the movie ended with the party scene without all that subsequent melodramatic crap to glorify the working class who "lost" gain. Up to that point, both families are almost equally ambiguous, with even some interesting reflections on how this generation's weak spot for resonant brand names and exclusivity, as even the humblest servant now is supposed to have a resume full of renowned names or belong to elite companies to get a job. The vertical depiction of society is also effective in its simplicity, with the Parks' physically living above everything else, but at the same time unable to see what lies beneath due to the high walls and trees that entirely cover the view from their garden. The layout of their house also mirrors this verticality with rooms and hallways they are not even aware of.
An above-average film overall but definitely no masterpiece, not even Boon Joon-ho's best.
i'm no fan of the Korean or similar cinema, so i watch it just because of the buzz and so many times the buzz comes from artistic cinema lovers or pretentious wannabes. But boy this was just superb, fantastic cinematography, music, tense, story which gives so much to the viewer and 2 hours are not enough. Brilliant in so many levels. A movie that should be on a bucket list.
This movie is on a whole other level. The writing is really well done and it gets you to think hard.
Everything is great about this movie, save for some elements in the ending that weren’t believable at all. Nevertheless, the acting was flawless and I had years to watch a movie with such an original and “different” plot.
I am mixed by this film, altough i really enjoyed it, and found a lot of things that made this film, you know, good. But my problem with the film is kinda strange and i cant really explain it easily, is like when i watched portrait on a lady on fire the first time, i knew this was good, but i just couldnt love it, or give it the 10/10 that it is.
It is stil a dope ass movie, but just, i dont know. I guess i just didnt found the characters as good as others or maybe i just dont know shit about films, who knows.
Throughout this movie I could barely stand it, in the good way. I don't even know how to describe it. At the 'high point' when the rich family comes home early from camping I was shaking so hard my cat got off my lap in disgust and my sibling flinched and knocked our folding table down, haha. In terms of building tension and engagement this movie is perfect, in terms of surprises that still make logical and emotional sense, this movie is perfect. The themes about classism come through strong too. With all its elements it almost feels packed overly full honestly. It makes me want to watch it scene by scene rather than all at once!
Not really my cup of tea... but I can certainly see why so many people like it. I personally found it a tad too violent.
Ki-Taek: They are rich but still nice.
Chung-sook: They are nice because they are rich.
The trailer to this movie does not give anything away, and that makes me super happy because wow, this movie caught me off guard. Beautiful cinematography, intense moments and a great cast. Also I need a bowl of ram-don... NOW!
Just wanted to update my comment that this is now one of my fave films of all time and gets better and better with every watch.
good movie but I wouldn't say it's special
I will say first. Kudos to both the marketing machine AND the viewers. Everything I thought this movie was going to be was wrong. Allow me to repay the favor and say if you haven't seen this, don't read this or any review.
Parasite really is not what I expected. I don't know what I expected. But with the creepy name and the unsettling movie poster, I didn't expect the first half to be a light hearted comedy. The majority of the movie, if anything, reminds me of a classic farce. They keep adding layer after layer of the con that by the time they had the drunken party at the house while the family was away you almost half expected them to get away with it. But when the former housekeeper shows back up in the middle of a rainy night, you know something is about to go wrong. Just how wrong, was completely unexpected however, culminating in an array of murders for an array of reasons. How it turns out, who knows. We see the son's fantasy of how he would like it to turn out. But that's just a fantasy. However with only a few family members left, there certainly doesn't seem to be room for a sequel. By the time the movie is over it has run through near any genre you could think of and handles each one deftly. Despite all the hype, this one does not disappoint.
DISCLAIMER: I did not see this movie in its original language(Korean), but in a dubbed version(Italian). I may have missed some nuances.
I went into this movie without knowing anything about it, aside from the Oscar win and the praise it got from everyone. I didn’t know what to expect, what kind of movie it would be. I hadn’t even ever seen a Korean movie.
Before talking about the plot and the visuals, I have to say that the cast was all great. While I watched a dubbed version, the performance of each actor and actress was very convincing and entertaining.
I really enjoyed the plot of Parasite. It managed to subvert my expectations at every turn. The movie was able to shapeshift easily and seamlessly between a comedy, a thriller, even almost an horror (the scene were the ex housekeeper’s husband comes up the stairs and scares the child is super creepy; that shot with only the eyes peeking above the stairs gave me shivers). It changed so many genres that I wouldn’t know what to pick to describe it. But that, in my opinion, is one of its best features.
The visuals and photography were very well done. The shot were the family is fleeing in the rain is absolutely stunning and perfectly executed. Good job to the director.
In the end, I would recommend this movie to anyone, without any reservations. It reminded me of a theatrical play, in a good way. It’s absolutely entertaining, it keeps you glued to the screen for the whole runtime. It’s the perfect length, it doesn’t feel neither too long or too short. I honestly can’t find a negative.
10/10
What a great movie plot!
Despite hearing about this from day dot, I thankfully managed to avoid knowing anything about this other than it's title, director and subsequent success. Boy am I glad, because it's quite the ride!
No doubt about it, 'Parasite' is a high quality film. It wasn't at all what I had assumed it would be like, it has a much more comedic side to it than I was expecting - and that's a positive. Yet, it's still pretty dark. It's a great mix. The plot is one that is very entertaining to see play out - the ending is particularly nuts.
The cast do a fantastic job, especially the main quartet. Song Kang-ho would be my personal standout, I enjoyed watching him throughout. Choi Woo-shik is very good too, as are Park So-dam and Jang Hye-jin. All of the onscreen talent do terrific though, from Cho Yeo-jeong to Lee Jung-eun.
I don't have any negatives for this, it's a brilliant film. From the cinematography, to the dialogue, to the locations, to the humour. You name it, this produces it on an impressive level.
Not that I need to say this, given I'm seemingly one of the last few who hadn't, but you must watch this!
I have absolutely no doubts in my mind why this movie won the Best Picture Oscar. Everything about it was impeccable.
This the most realistic picture I ever saw.
The ending was unexpected and the title summarizes the story pretty well.
WHACK WHACK WHACK! I loved every minute of this bad boy. The way everyone was talking about it, I thought it was going to be a horror, but I was so pleasantly surprised at the comedic thriller it actually is. I was laughing and yelling and gasping the entire time. I'm so glad it swept everyone at the Oscars; this movie deserved all of it.
It took me almost 2h to get why it won the Oscar. In the end I think I got it. Still, the movie is realistic, funny, mad and a little bit sad.
so so so overrated ! I am going to give it 5/10 !
It sure does provoke some thought. I have a lot of respect for the film but personally I think the rating is a little over hyped and I'm not sure where it's really coming from. It gives you a little of each character but for me it was not enough to be involved with any in particular. The acting was fine, the message was good from my perception, a little fuzzy what actually happened to the sister since there is no footage involving her at the end of the film. Would I watch it again? No, I would not. 7/10.
Parasite: It gets under your skin, sucks away the toxic memory of all the bad films you have seen, and burrows itself into your consciousness, where it threatens to stay forever. A brilliant film, and one that is deserving of the awards it has received.
I would not say that the cinematography/acting or directing was extraordinary but the story definitely compensated for any shortcomings of this film.
money is the root of all evil. when you have it you want more when you don't have it you'll do anything to get it. Greed nomatter which way you look at it. The most powerful enough thing to come between families next to drugs and the one thing in todays world you can't live without.
I've been postponing "Parasite" since I first started to read some comments about it, about how incredible it was, the genius kind of piece it represented, etc. My expectations usually get too high and I start avoiding the film (because I'm too scared to break those expectations, yes).
Now that I finally watched it, I feel bad for missing out for so very long. It IS a genius kind of piece. Damn! I'm mesmerized.
I had been waiting to see this for weeks and expectations could not have been higher, so I was a little wary of disappointment when I sat down. I needn't have worried - within a few minutes Bong Joon-ho had his hooks into me and I was engrossed every step of the way until almost the very end. I am sitting and wondering where in my top 10 films ever this would fit. The plot was exquisitely worked out and while it had important themes they didn't undermine the sheer enjoyment of watching it unfold. Much of that pleasure was in the uncertainty over what would happen next, reinforced by a number of red herrings scattered along the way. I could easily have enjoyed watching a miniseries of this story that fully tugged on all the narrative threads. It was also beautiful to watch throughout. If I have one reservation it is the ending where it felt there were a number of better earlier finishing points and the final scene was rather flat. I am sure it would be even more effective on the big screen but don't let that put you off seeing it now - preferably "with" friends. You'll want to discuss it afterwards and then go and see it together again on the big screen to catch all the details you missed!
Parasite was in no way anything like what I expected. I don’t know why I thought it would be horror, but it’s not. It’s a genuinely entertaining black comedy thriller.
A few of its sequences are stunningly presented, and it manages to be truly funny while also having quite a lot to say.
Like many of its genre, it’s at its best in the early setup and its (excellent) payoff, but it never felt truly slow, nor was I ever disinterested. Parasite is a movie I can’t recommend enough, and one best enjoyed with as little prior detail as possible.
Despite the immense praise given, my expectations were low going into the viewing of this film. It had garnered so much praise that I assumed, like many films this happens to, that it was going to be heavily overrated. I have never been more wrong about a film in my life.
This movie was utterly fantastic. Beautifully shot, well directed and the casting and acting was spot on. It is very rare for me to be that surprised about a movie, and yet Joon-ho destroyed every expectation I had and had me walking away knowing I had just watched a masterpiece.
Well done to all involved in gifting us this gem.
It's as if Hitchcock adapted Shakespeare. Except this is an original screenplay. A masterpiece.
totally overrated. if you want to watch lowlifes being miserable and entertaining choose any episode of shameless instead. i have serious doubts about the whole institution of the oscar awards
Holy shit that was a movie. Going to have to take a bit of time to process this. Stop reading reviews and just watch it
Incredible. A must watch movie!
Most amazing movie of this decade till now. It thought it was because of Hollywood was forced for Asian relevance and due to which they give Oscar to them. I'm wrong completely this movie needs twice the oscars for twisting my stomach a lot.
Amazing acting , story and directing.
.It's magnificent and has a really deserved Oscar. I would have given the american Oscar to the Joker and only the international one to this movie, but I don't know why Hollywood has decided to move away one Oscar. Maybe 'cause its political content I guess, because the Joker calls to violent revolution and this one is like more "intellectual" and submissive by the rich ones' eyes. However, this movie is really awesome and deserves its medals.
The story is really original, very well developped and the exposition is brilliant, like old Spanish written comedies. It amazes me the most how rawly, clearly and ironicly but subtly it exposes the social class diferences between families to the point that one family is able to support three families and even don't care about it. Moreover, it has a lot of poetry, like when they're drowned in that, the walk back to hell... And I really liked the end, it's really original and gets someone confused.
To me, a totally ten. Direct to my collection.
Im not fan pf korrean movie but that movie was to good
The story looks very simple but it takes you from top level to bottom level in just a minute,so you can have very different feelings at the same time like a real life. WATCH AND SEE !!!
How can you live in a place like this?
Well, lots of people live underground.
You'll never see it coming. Seriously. It deserved the Oscar for Best Picture. It's just one of those movies, acting, storyline, setting, costumes, everything. Perfect.
Interesting movie. Honestly couldn't decide whether to root for the main characters or not.
this was like an Asian Shameless. very well done, great acting, great storyline. I didn't have any expectations watching this movie, but I was definitely pleased.
