The Acolyte: 1x01 Lost / Found

How do you have a fire in space…?

loading replies

@slimyboi Not to complicate the issue, but there is a strong case to be made based on on-screen evidence that the "space" in Star Wars has both gravity and is not a complete vacuum. The rules of our galaxy clearly do not apply.

Why did the black girl stab the white woman?

@baroines Because Carrie-Anne Moss is too expensive for more than one episode. :)

How exactly do they plan to conclude all these plot points in one more episode?!?
I've loved this season, but this feels like it needs another 5 episodes at least!

@isaac_paech Extra-long finale. (Also, be prepared for a Rogue One-like ending)

I thought they're not after her for having a high M-count, but for her ability to retain any transplanted. And, ultimately, so they can take her apart, see how she ticks and modify Snoke (Palpatine's clone) to accept "M" transplants successfully, so they can supe up his M-count.

Crosshair and Omega's moments are really carrying this season for me

loading replies

@isaac_paech Yeah, I'm real worried about that because last season focused on Tech's relationship to Omega.

Imagine an astronaut on the ISS relying on an AppleWatch that barely lasts a day and requires a connection to a phone to do most things. Product placement is hilarious sometimes.

@olethembones It's always funny to see someone who watches science fiction, where completely fictitious and impossible things happen, draw the line at consumer products functioning as intended.

I can’t see shit, it’s too dark

loading replies

@caiomunarolo Close your windows, I guess? This was a dark episode, but it was also lit where it needed to be. Way better lighting balance than the final episode of Obi-wan Kenobi or the Battle of Winterfell.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch: 3x07 Extraction (2)

Okay I have a very strong feeling this shadow clone is Tech

loading replies

@finfan There's no guarantee that all operatives are clones. Ventress is confirmed in the trailers, and book readers have pointed out that the timeline of these episodes almost overlaps the timeline of Ventress dying and being resurrected (new canon). What if the operative program is how that happens?

Additionally, that ship this operative is using just screams lone Sith Apprentice.

I will be surprised if it is not Ventress. I will be VERY surprised if it's Tech. It would cheapen his sacrifice too much, it doesn't feel like something Filoni would do. But, like you said, we'll see.

The move as a whole is just okay. The main characters seems interesting, but is never explored. The plot is pretty basic too. My only complaint is Mathilda. She says weird things, does weird things - basically everything about her is weird. She acts way older than she is and all the things with romantic undertones are just unecessary, at best they are creepy. I don't see what it adds to their relationship, so I don't see any reason for these things to be happening.

loading replies

@qetyaysta And as we all know, teenaged girls never EVER behave weirdly.

I am seriously getting excited for this story arc! Throughout the years we heard bits and pieces about Dr. Vegapunk being mentioned and i always assumed it was a guy because of the Dr. in front of the name. Not once did it occur to me that it might have been a girl! With the writer of One Piece being Oda i guess i should not have assumed so much  I am very interested in seeing how Franky will react to her! Should we expect a love triangle to form between Franky, Sanji and Dr. Vegapunk?

loading replies

@dunpealhunter IIRC, Franky was fanboying about VegaPunk several seasons ago, and I believe he called her a "he" because he didn't know either.

"I'm going to make him watch all the Star Trek, all three series." - Danielle Poole, 2003~4

If you count The Animated Series, that means this timeline did not get Deep Space Nine or Voyager (or Enterprise). I can imagine this has something to do with the falling out Ronald D. Moore had with Star Trek's Executive Producer at the time Rick Berman, who gave him hell on DS9 and led him to leave Voyager very early on. I wonder how many TNG movies there are in this timeline. This episode is set about around when the last TNG movie, Nemesis, was released in our timeline.

Edit: Someone else pointed out that FAM's timeline might have gotten Star Trek Phase II. Which would mean no Next Generation either. And because The Motion Picture was created from the ashes of the cancellation of Phase II, probably no Star Trek films at all! Imagine a few years of 60s Trek, a couple years of 60s cartoon Trek, then maybe a few more years of 70s Trek, all influenced by a young Roddenberry. And then the franchise peters out and gets shelved alongside shows like Battlestar Galactica and Space 1999 because people are much more interested in actual space travel than imagined space travel.

loading replies

@mellowgeek Wouldn't it be funny if there's a two-second blurb in the intro of season 5 about how they tried to reboot Star Trek with younger actors and it failed miserably?

The Muppet Christmas Carol

God knows why they made the runtime shorter. They cut out the song and scene for “The Love is gone.” Which Belle sings when she breaks up with Scrooge.
That scene you can probably only get on the VHS version. Not sure it is on the dvd one.

loading replies

@jim222001 That scene was in the theatrical release (in America, at least), but cut from the first run of digital home releases for some reason (Like you said, the VHS was the only one at the time to include it). Now, an extended cut has been officially released digitally since they remastered the movie. I believe the streaming version of the movie includes the song.

It was a mistake to remove the song in the first place, it doesn't interrupt the pacing and it ties into the reprise at the end where they sing "The love we've found." Maybe Michael Caine didn't like watching himself sing?

I see what you're doing, show. Having Loki become a master of time travel who turns toward the camera while emphasizing the line "it's WHO". I see, and I am amused. I like how this not only explores who our main cast were before their lives in the TVA, but it's a meta examination of how you can't just recapture the allure of the past without it literally unraveling, and also how the absurd impossibility of fiction is just as essential to science fiction as the science. A really inventive and rich episode. And so many jet skis.
