Interesting premier. I wish they showed final edited images of what the models did. It looked like they were showing unedited photos. Interested to see some of the models' work in the upcoming episodes.
The first time I watched The Martian was in theaters and I remember absolutely loving it. Coming at it for a rewatch was a little bit depressing, particularly after reading the book. I should have known better.
The movie itself is not bad, not at all. Ridley Scott did a great job with this movie and adapting it to the screen. There were a lot of great elements to the original story that got cut, but it was for a reason. Sometimes it's not easy to adapt the little details to the big screen. It's just not possible without making a 12 hour film.
The movie captured the most hilarious of the funny moments and the worst punchlines of the dad jokes, all while doing justice to the story itself. Matt Damon really brought Mark Watney alive. He did such a great job in this role. Some of the Earth supporting cast were great as well, like Chiwetel Ejiofor as Venkat (Vincent) Kapoor and Donald Glover as Rich Purnell.
I'm keeping my rating of this show from when I first watched it, because my impression of the film has been muddied since reading the original story. All in all this is a pretty good show with some great music, a great cast, and a lot of impressionable moments. It's cheeky and action-packed, while still retaining the gravity of the situation for the serious, emotional moments.
Loved it.
It's rare that I feel so much anger and devastation after watching a documentary, but Pray Away broke me.
I feel so sad for what these people went through, believing that they need to be saved or cured so much that they became leaders in the same movement that hurt them. And I'm so angry for all of the people that they went on to hurt with their messaging.
I'm happy that many of them were able to get out of this toxic cult and are now coming forward to talk about it, but at the same time I feel so much rage and sadness that this ever happened in the first place.
I hope people realize that this kind of conversion church therapy is still happening. I went through the same lectures and yuppity "support group" crap in 2016-17 in the LDS church. It was a support group for people with same sex attraction and the ideology of "it's not the thoughts or feelings that are the sin, it's the action that's the sin" was pushed down my throat so. damn. hard.
So much of this documentary feels intimately familiar in the worst possible way. It's so hard not to be angry at people who continue to push the idea that there is something wrong with you if you're queer.
I really hope that everyone who watches this will realize that it's okay to be who you are. It's okay to be gay or lesbian or queer. There is nothing about a group pushing a hate message that is holy or just and the idea that God condones that hatred is absolutely absurd.
More than anything, I hope that this documentary will reach the hearts of the people who believe that being gay is a sin and that homosexuality is something needing to be cured. I hope that they will realize how much harm they're causing by pushing their twisted idea of morality on other people. Maybe seeing into the lives of the people who bought into this message the most will give them the compassion they need to understand.
This documentary is gutting.
This is the BEST episode I've seen in a long time. It brings back all that cheeky comedy we used to get back in seasons 1-4. All of the 'joke' episodes that they make just serous enough that it fits into Supernatural, but also just on the cusp of 'What show am I watching again?'
Absolutely love it!
LMAO The look on Dean's face when Sam was flirting is comedic gold!
I'm loving all the recent parallels of 'dad went hunting and he hasn't been home for a few days.'
When Jody pulled that line with Claire that was like a confirmation that Claire is all grown up and Jody acknowledges that she's making a difference in a lot of people's lives. I love it!
Oh man Claire is turning into such a badass. They missed a huge opportunity by not making her a larger part of the show.
MISSOURI?!?!?
What a crazy episode? It's been 12 freaking years since she's been on the show but I recognize her voice immediately. Crazy how the boys remember everyone they helped, after everything they've gone through and everyone they've lost, Sam knew exactly who she was when he answered the call.
But honestly why did they have to go and kill her like that? She's a reminder of the good days, when the boys were still just getting their start as a hunting duo. This just makes the whole season feel so much more ominous. Reminds me of when Crowley went and started killing all the people the boys saved in their first cases together.
It hurts in a different kind of way. :(
Kinda a strange episode.
Jack is much different from any of the other 'big bad' monsters we've seen on the show before because although we have had some minor monsters where the boys are rooting for them turning out good and making the right decisions, we haven't really seen anything like that on this scale.
It's strange to look at Jack (with young Alexander Calvert's face) and see him as someone more powerful than Lucifer. There's this element of innocence to him, and in that way he's still a child who is learning, but at the same time he's dealing with making life or death decisions - and that's life or death for an entire planet.
Ah sweet 'ol Jack!
I love this premier. It's such a great episode. Perhaps a bit 'out there' in comparison to the rest of the series, but the writers did a great job of introducing and developing Jack as a character and that makes this episode stand out.
Oh the lovely recap with Carry on my Wayward Son... why do they not do this for every episode?
I'm not sure how they're going to recover this season at this point.
I am still not even sure who the big enemy is this season... the Men of Letters or Lucifer?
Super confusing.
This entire episode felt like one of the boys was going to die die. Like permanently for good, not coming back.
I was tense the entire time.
MARK PELLEGRINO! MY MAN!!!
This episode was AMAZING. I absolutely LOVE having Mark back in the show playing Lucifer. The way he did all that winky nod-nod to Crowley's demon audience while still fooling Crowley into believing he has the power was epic! Pellegrino is truly a master of his craft.
I can't wait to watch this all blow up in Crowley's face. How can he honestly think he could control Lucifer? The arrogance, lol.
At the same time, I'm a little sad Davies is gone? I mean, shame on him for working with the Men of Letters but also.. he was just starting to make real progress toward changing and becoming a better person. He was finally standing up for what was right instead of just following orders.
I was hoping to get a more satisfying change of sides before we had to say goodbye to him. An inside job to take down the organization would have been a great finale!
Claire - love her!
Davies - throw him out with the trash!
This episode really cemented by hate for the Men of Letters. I thought they were bad before but it seems that's just the tip of the iceberg. They've effectively brainwashed their operatives into doing whatever the politicians want (because who else is funding this operation?) and throw humans away like they're nothing, all while maintaining an air of superiority and maintaining the narrative that they're better and more efficient and more organized.
Organized doesn't equal Integrity.
The Negan references are gold. This really goes to show how much this cast has become family throughout this series. Even though JDM hasn't been in the show in AGES he still gets nods and respect for his new role and accomplishments. I love that so much!
Only thing that could have made this complete is if TWD did a Sam and Dean reference.
Really truly a tragedy.
Of all the big bad monsters I really liked the Alpha Vampire the most. Every time he comes on-screen I get the heebie-jeebies. Rick Worthy has done a great job playing this character over the years and I'm sad to see him go, especially in such an icky death. Anything the Men of Letters is involved in gives me the ick.
Otherwise, great episode. Had me sitting on the edge of my seat with that attack on the complex. Part of me was hoping they were all going to die except the Winchesters and everybody would be on with their life. Sam should have stuck to that deal.
Fergus was one of my favorite minor characters in this show, for how he got under Crowley's skin if nothing else. Bit of a tragedy honestly.
But at the same time we got Mark Pellegrino back so if that's the trade-off I will take it. Lucifer is just not the same brand of evil if it's not Mark. There's something about his expression and the way he uses his eyes that sells this character. Man should get an award for this performance.
Honestly, wth?
Why was this necessary?
First Jo and Ellen, then Bella, then Charlie, and now Eileen. Why are all the female characters in this show ending up dead?
And I'm also angry with Crowley. I know he's the king of hell and all big bad or whatever but I was starting to hope he'd retained some of his humanity and care. But to be working with the Men of Letters is a whole new level of deplorable.
And ugh the Men of Letters. What a joke of an organization. Seriously I can't wait for the end of this super monster arc because I'm so fed up with them.
When Sam says to Dean "Their mom is on a hunting trip, and she hasn't been home in a week" to get him to go along with checking-in with Alicia and help you could see the hurt in his eyes. It was immediately a flashback to 11 years ago when he showed up on Sam's doorstep in college saying the same thing about their Dad.
Very powerful reference from Steve Yockey.
Sam: You did the right thing. You saved him.
Dean: Yeah, he seemed super saved.
Lol, Dean always getting cheeky with the pessimism.
Okay.... cool? but also... CAS WTF?
Seriously what is with one of the boys always going dark side? If it isn't Sam, it's Dean, and if it isn't either of them, it's Cas. But almost every season one of them is compromised and idk.. you'd just think by now they'd have contingency plans against this.
But honestly wow who could have expected Lucifer's spawn to brainwash Cas.
Wow.
Honestly, what an amazing episode! I miss the old Monster of the Week episodes that are all dark and creepy. And this one was definitely creepy.
All this Men of Letters crap is going to end up blowing up in their faces and watching them go head to head with Sam and Dean is going to be so satisfying. What deplorable people to have a superiority complex. God, maybe it wasn't so bad the Men of Letters were wiped out in the 1950's.
All this talkin' about the end and 100 years from now whose gonna remember us kinda stuff is making me sentimental. :(
You know... I would just love to know where they get their bullets and weapons. Like, do they reload their own rounds and if so why do they never show it on screen aside from the few times they've had to make super special weapons? Or is there some secret underground hunter version of Cabela's or a sporting goods catalogue where they do their shopping? Is there like.. corporate management regulating and transporting witch killing bullets and pure silver bullets?
These are the things that run through my mind...
I'm loving all the fancy slow-mo and round robin shots in this episode - very superhero-esque of them.
What a fantastic episode and amazing acting. Watching Sam's distress at Dean becoming 'not him' in this episode was so genuine that it was at times difficult to watch.
And Jensen Ackles was amazing pulling this whole amnesia routine. He's been playing this character for over 10 years and I'm sure at this point a lot of this character is second nature to him. To go through the process of slowly dropping the mannerisms and speech patterns that make Dean who he is was both tragic and impressive from an acting standpoint.
And it's always lovely to see Rowena assisting the boys. Amazing episode!
What an episode! Bringing back stories from Cas' dark past. I love how far Cas has grown as a character over the seasons, being able to poke back at Dean and now being able to show genuine sympathy and care for Lily's loss and the impact of his actions.
Part of me is still wondering what's going to go down with the whole Billie thing though. They keep forshadowing and hinting at something awful happening and I'm just waiting for them to break the news of what the big bad is.
Oh the things these boys get into... and it's not even the first time they've been in prison for a job lol.
This was a good episode with the boys pulling some epic tricks on the government. For such a top secret elite branch or whatever they are, they sure don't know anything about the people they're holding (or chasing.) They honestly never stood a chance against the Winchesters. Seeing the boys go head to head with law enforcement is always entertaining, especially when they realize the consequences of vastly underestimating the boys.
Cass and Mary make a good duo. I think Mary has a lot of Dean's sass in her (or really that's the other way around) and it's comforting to see them work together so well. Great episode!
RIP Billie.
I like the Lucifer plot but it's just not the same without Mark Pellegrino.
