@michal of course it was obvious how it ends, there is already film's before and after this series of events.
They even say in a New Hope about the people who died to get the plans.
It's a film to fill back story, enjoy it for the acting, the cinematography, and emotions that it brings, it enhances the main arch, it isn't necessary, but for a fan who just can't get enough it offers insight into the surrounding universe and fills in some of the "grey areas".
