Uneven. That would be the best word to describe it. Yes, in some parts it is better than the first one. In some others it definitely does not hold up. Better: definitely is more emotional and due to the fact that Gunn did not have to introduce the characters anymore he had more time to flesh out what makes them tick. It also is funnier, however it tries to be funny a bit too much sometimes. It's like trying to go for 10 jokes but only 5 hit their target, whereas Vol 1 had much less but hit every time. Chemistry between Mantis and Drax was off the charts. Sisterhood between Gomorra and Nebula was explored deeper than in part 1. Worse: Definitely the soundtrack. Oh man they wasted a huge opportunity. It's like someone else chose the music for Vol. 1. And while the story about Peter and his father is very intriguing the movie takes some time to get to the point. They gave Michael Rooker the role of his life and without saying too much, he made good use of it. Yondu stood on equal footing than Starlord. I will definitely see it again because it's a good movie. Given the fact that for me part 1 was the best of all Marvel movies, Vol 2 could not beat the odds of having quite the same impact for me. It's still a very very entertaining movie and I will definitely go see it again.
