[6.0/10] Oh man, there’s just so many balls in the air on this one, and the show can’t seem to focus or find a way to connect them, so we mostly just jump around from scene to scene without reason or flow.

It’s a shame, because some of the storylines are good, or at least, have the kernel of a good idea in them. This is more of a Punisher episode than a Spider-Man episode, and I appreciate the approach of having him and Kraven finding a certain camaraderie and understanding since they’re both “hunters,” even if it involves more tediously-delivered backstory.

At the same time, I can appreciate the Gregor Samsa vibe the show is going for the Spider-Man turning into a man-spider. There’s nothing brilliant in it, necessarily, but it does require the show to forego voiceover and wisecracks, the veritable backbone of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, which creates some interesting challenges for the show as it’s forced to tell its story through other means.

But man, we’re still messing with the Morbius stuff that is going nowhere, and including Liz, Flash Thompson, Harry Osbourne, and more into an already overstuffed story arc. None of it has time to breathe, and it becomes a big mush at some point.

Overall, this was basically 2-3 episodes rolled into one, and each has some merit, but none can really shine in that framework.
