Humans: Season 3

3x08 Episode 8

I'm shocked at this finale, it blew my mind in ways I was definitely not expecting.

Mia, the reason I got hooked on this show on the first place, is gone... I can't believe they did it. Sadly, it makes a lot of sense she's a martyr given how public she became as pretty much the main face of Synth activism. If Gemma Chan is really gone from the show, it sucks, but she was wonderful these three seasons. :(

It's sad that Sam pretty much ignited the worst of the fight... but honestly, he only thought of defending the others. He really is just a kid, regardless of his intelligence, and easily the most entertaining/interesting aspect of this season for me. At this moment in time I don't know if the show is renewed ot when it will come back if it does get renewed, but I wonder how they will deal with the actor growing up. Whether there is a time jump or not (given Mattie's pregnancy) I do hope Sam remains on the show - without Mia, he's easily the heart of it.

Odi turning out to be V was cool, even though there are some details from season 2 I have forgotten. Like I said on the previous episode, there's a very "Game of Thrones - Three-Eyed Raven" vibe to the character, more so when we get to know more. Niska seems to have acquired the connection without the loss of her own personality, which should be interesting going forwards.

(Also, how badass did she look with those eyes??)

Laura going to jail after all her efforts this season makes this finale extra sad, though I doubt she will remain there for long given how the tables turned on the government after Mia's death. Neil getting his shit together in the right moment was nice to see - screw Basswood.

(They did point out Basswood only affected Britain - interesting to know there are countries where they would "be fine".)

The only disappointment of the episode is the human-Synth hybrid/baby storyline. It feels... stupid, mostly because it takes the show away from the interesting and thought-provoking territory where it got this season. From the moment they came up with the "Leo healed faster than expected" element we should have known, and the relationship with Mattie and pregnancy was the least engaging aspect of the season for me, but the magical baby is way too far fetched. Still, the writers have done a good job so far, so I'm willing to see how they work with it.

Let's hope the show gets renewed because we need more! (I seriously doubt it would get cancelled without a specific "final season" given the collaboration between US and UK channels.)
