Had to "look" this again, watched it probably in the 80's for the first time. Thought it had something to do with subliminal advertising, and actually it does on some level. If you look past the era specific music and sound effects, it actually is a decent movie! An original story, good pacing, action and acting, I was amazed that a movie produced in 1981 already showed how important advertising was.
P.S. In my opinion, the Looker device is something like the Neuralyser as seen in the Men In Black comics (and films)
