So, MY rating of a show/movie goes like this:
1. Was it entertaining for me?
2. How much it lived up to my expectations of it, usually by gener?

The answer to 1 is quite straight forward - if I didn't think about the flaws in the middle of it and forgot about the things I do before and after watching - then it was entertaining ME enough. Sometimes, a show or s movie making me think of it post-watching might get ranked higher as entertaining for ME.
The answer to 2 is a bit more complicated, as it depends on a lot if outside factors, like how the show/movie was advertised, what's the gener and audience the creators aim it to, who are the actors and what I think/know of them.

Camping doesn't get all that best of reviews, and pointing out what I wrote above might explain what I'm about to write next. I knew nothing of this show. I passed by the TV in my living room in the middle a teaser for it a day before the premiere on my cables, it said "new comedy from HBO” which made me think "that's should be good" (expectations right there), it showed David Tennant with a fishing hat (more expectations), a bunch of other actors I didn't new, and Jennifer Garner. Well, that made me curious. Garner on a TV comedy. Interesting.
So I watched the first episode and was kind of "ok, kinda weird, I'm not putting it in my watchlist just yet. Let's see what episode 2 will be like". After episode 2 I got it. My cables advertised it WRONG. it's not a comedy per say (HBO after all, they have specials for that) it's a complicated drama which pretty thought subjects: uteros surgery, divorce, alcoholisem and rehab, insecurities, social anxiety, gender preference. Pretty heavy stuff. But not a lot of people like watching heavy stuff (for just 30 minutes), or at list I don't. I want to be entertained. So HBO, in a very wise way to my honest opinion, made this drama covered with a lot of goofy comedy. This way a guy like me, just want to take a break from my serious day for 30 minutes, can watch a show with a lot of added content and seriousness, while having a laugh. The acting is real good, and there are couple of really good shining moments from the actors and their little nuances.
I enjoying it because it flipped over my expectations and surprised me. The show deliveres more than what the teaser said it will be.
I recommend you to watch it, open minded, with the will of relaxing and find out things you didn't expect.
I haven't seen Venom yet, but I think the reason it made so good at the box office was that critics gave it such a hard time people went seeing what was so bad and go in without any expectations to enjoy. So they ended up quite enjoying it because the difference between what they heard and what they saw was so big. The dissonance made the good numbers.

Writing this took way more than this episode watch time. It sure answered my 2 criterias.
