[8.2/10] So many great laughs in this one. The frame story is quality, with the “Halloween around the house” vibe leading to all sort of great gags, especially Homer-focused gags.

The first segment, with an evil Krusty Doll, is an all-time classic. Everything from the “that’s good/that’s bad” exchange, to the good/evil switch, to “the toaster’s been laughing at me” are outstanding. It’s a pretty simple story, but taking the “Chucky” bit in such a loony direction pays immediate comic dividends.

The King Kong parody is almost as good. It’s a superb Burns episode, between his cover-up of the “bait-thing beauty” remark, to his misguided efforts to throw a gas bomb. Homer as King Kong makes for some neat design work, and the 1930s black and white setup gives it a specific quality that’s helpful to distinguish the THoH segments.

The last segment is probably the weakest of the three, but that’s no crime. The Simpsons does a nice riff on Return of the Living Dead here, with Homer’s zombie kills in particular being a highlight. (“He was a zombie?”) Once again, it’s a pretty tidy little story, but it works as a skeleton for all sorts of hilarious undead-based gags.

Overall, a definite winner of a Halloween special.
